MODULE I

It shall be a golden rule among our barristers to adopt the ReLACS

whenever he is confronted with an essay bar examination question. This
four-paragraphed or four-sentenced method proves to be the
internationally accepted style of answering a legal problem. To this date, it
is considered to be the most effective style of answering bar examination
questions as it is structured in manner which is responsive and logical. One
may argue that it is inconvenient and a bit exhausting to use. But actually,
it is quite the opposite. This structure is condensed only to four sentences.
Beyond that would convert to an ineffective answer. The objective of this
module is to instill a mechanism that would ultimately lift the barrister’s
position into a leverage against those who chooses not to practice the
ReLACS. This module will exemplify a straightforward approach which is
the key in answering the bar examination.

USING Re-L-A-CS

The ReLAC Structure is a framework for organizing your answer to an

official law or bar examination question. The basic structure is: Reply, Legal
Basis, Analysis, and Conclusion. Using this simple framework for structuring
your answer will ensure that you have written a clear, concise, and
complete answer.

REPLY Begin your answer by stating a clear and concise

response to the issue at hand. Sometimes the
question provides the issue for you which may be
quickly answered by a categorical “Yes” or “No”,
or a qualified “Yes” or “No”, as the case may be.
LEGAL BASIS The Legal Basis will provide the law,
jurisprudence, doctrine, principle, or rule that
applies to the issue at hand. It should be stated as
a general principle, and not a conclusion to the
particular case.
ANALYSIS This involves the application of the legal basis to
the facts of the problem or question.
CONCLUSION The Conclusion is the answer to the issue. State the
result of your analysis.
