WORD WALL
The „Word Wall‟ is a concept focusing on words, and their pronunciation, which are not

make the Word Wall as shown in the picture.
• The Word Wall should be pasted in the child's room or where ever he/she could
give it a glance daily.
• Make sure the child uses the words given in the Word Wall in his/her routine.
Parents need to help their child to make the „Word Wall‟ in his/her English notebook and
submit it to the English teacher, as it is an important assessment tool for his/her

WORD WEB
A Word Web (also known as semantic mapping) illustrates how key words or concepts are
related to one another through graphic representations. The primary purpose of a Word
Web is to teach students to see how new concepts can be defined and related to other
concepts. It also helps to enhance vocabulary and frame sentences thereby helping the
students in paragraph writing. The student will be instructed on this activity in the
classroom.
What we expect from the Parents? Parents are requested to help their child prepare a
„Word Web‟ at home in their English notebook. You can help your child by adding new
words to the web.
A sample of the „Word Web‟ is as follows.

guide

loving happy

Mother
cooks
tasty beautiful
food
caring

The students will be taught to frame a Word Web using the word “Endurance”.
WORD LADDER
The “Word Ladder” is a tool to master tough words of the English language in an
effortless way. This tool is truly application based and helps the students to learn the word
meanings of even the most difficult word by extending the given words to its antonyms
and synonyms.
Objective: To innovate and improvise the vocabulary mastering process of the English
language with a different technique (as shown in the sample below)
What do we expect from the students?
• One word will be introduced Bi-monthly. The students will extend each letter to its
synonyms and antonyms.
• The word ladder for the given word will be explained in the class by the English
teacher. The child is expected to make the complete ladder in his/her English
notebook at home and submit the notebook to the English teacher on 13th May
2019.

5
• The sample of the Word ladder is as follows and it can be extended as per the
vocabulary learnt by the child.

Step 1: First find out the synonyms of each letter for the given word “Awesome”
A - Awesome
W - Wonderful
E - Extraordinary
S - Stunning
O - Outstanding
M – Mind - blowing
E - Exceptional

Step 2: Write at least one sentence for each word from the given Word Ladder. Example:

• Extraordinary: Extraordinary achievements require extraordinary efforts.
• Stunning: Agni missile‟s stunning range makes it special.

mind-blowing features.
• Exceptional: He showed exceptional ability in mathematics.
For this Bi-monthly period, the students will be taught to build a Word ladder for the
word “TASTY”.
WORD EPISODE
The “Word Episode” is another tool to acquaint students with vocabulary usage where in
they can showcase their creativity through script writing, role play, monologue, dialogue
delivery and through various illustrations. Students can weave episodes, narratives, stories,
incidents or acts around the word to explain its usage in various formats. It is a tool which
is used to explain the most difficult words. It focuses on new words and putting them into
different format of sentences.
Objectives:
• To help students discover new words by themselves

6
• To assist students to have a rich vocabulary

What do we expect from the students?
• 2 words will be introduced in the Bi-Monthly Planner for the students to frame the
Word Episode for the same.
• The Word Episode for at least 1 word will be explained in the class by the English
teacher. Then the students are expected to extract the meaning of both the words in
their own way through various illustrations.
• The Word Episode will be assessed by the English teachers (date for the same will
be intimated before) during the school hours and the same will form part of their
assessment.
