Goals and Objectives

• Agriculture has been the backbone of Indian economy for several thousand years and it still
remains to be. It contributes to the overall economic growth of our country. Despite the
overwhelming market size, agricultural sector continues to lag in various sections.

• Production is affected by various reasons such as,

• Failure of monsoon,

• Improper storage and usage of irrigation water,

• Lack of deploying advanced technology in farming,

• Improper market connectivity leads to loss in revenue,

• Population explosion and Rapid urbanisation without proper planning has caused Urban Heat
Island Effect which affects the residents and environment.

• This proposal is aimed on creating an agricultural environment at the heart of an urban city
with sustainable agricultural cycle. This collaboration can be achieved through a proper
sustainable built environment and using advanced farming techniques.

• With proper articulation of architecture several benefits can be achieved on farming including
increased production, increased waste recycling, reduction of transportation cost.,

• Two separate disciplines such as architecture and agriculture have certain peculiar
characters which can be combined to experience a mutual benefits such as,
• Farming on controlled / adjustable environment,

• Efficient water usage cycle,

• Increasing yield through advanced technology,

• Improving the micro-climate of the location,

• Providing a Green haven for urban residents,

• To enhance community health and quality of life,

• Reverse contribution to global climate change

• Issue of homeless people in urban area is a side effect of urbanisation and it still needs to be solved.
Affordability is the major housing problem for poor people.

• By providing different scales of housing, homelessness can be mitigated People working in the farms
must be accommodated within the premises,

Architectural Aims

• The proposal attempts to create a sustainable agricultural environment and the effects of this
environment is used to fabricate a green habitat for people.

• The aim is to bridge the gap between planting and packing by creating dynamic spaces which
supports from sowing to selling under one roof.

• Creating the structure in a way which helps to achieve maximum production. Reducing
wastage of crops by providing proper storage facility with ease of accessibility. Market is
created to trade the cultivated crops with public, it acts a huge public space.

• The effects of agricultural environment is used in creating a pleasant habitat for people,
Habitats of different scales are designed to accommodate people of different economic group.

• Reducing the negative impact of building on environment through design.

Critical evaluation of Issues in the design thesis proposal

Environmental Issues

• Rapid urbanisation has caused UHIE. The proposal is aimed to counter the effects of UHIE
within the built environment.

• Micro climate of built environment can be altered by using the outcome of agricultural
environment.

• Air pollution has serious health effects and environmental problems, it can be controlled
within the built environment.
Social Issues

• Urban habitats are isolated and lack social interaction, this proposal attempts to bring the
community closer by co-operative activity through socially interactive spaces.

• Affordability is a major problem in urban housing, Low-cost housing for low income group
people can be provided.

• Urban inhabitants lack interaction with nature which leads to psychological effects, these
effects can be eliminated by increasing green spaces.
