Teachers’ Workload: Its Impact on Teachers’ Effectiveness

Teachers play important roles in enhancing students’ knowledge and skills inside
the classroom. Nevertheless, teachers have different roles in schools and teachers’
workload has been increasing significantly. This workload has an effect on how the
teachers perform their duties in school. Thus, the purpose of this research paper is to
determine the impact of workload to the teachers’ effectiveness inside the classroom. The
research was conducted to all public high schools under the District 2 of Division of
LapuLapu City namely Bankal National High School, Bankal Night High School, and
Pasay City North High School. The sample size of the respondents was acquired by
utilizing a simple random technique and the data were collected by using a survey and
interview questions. The gathered data were analyzed thru the use of a statistical tool.
After analyzing the collected information, the study showed that heavy workload has
negative impacts on teachers’ effectiveness in teaching their students. Their time was
consumed in doing different reports and filling out various forms. They haven’t had
enough time to prepare for the lesson and sometimes, their time for teaching was used
for doing paperwork. Thus, it has led to poor performance among some high school
students. Moreover, the presence of heavy workload demotivated teachers.
