UNDAMPED FREE VIBRATIONS

1. A mass of 1 kg is suspended by a spring passing over the pulley, as shown in Figure A.1. The system
is supported horizontally by a spring of stiffness 1 kN/m. determine the natural frequency of a
vibration system. Using following data:
Mass of pulley, M = 10 kg
Radius of pulley, R = 50 mm
Distance of spring from centre of pulley, r = 35 mm

2. Find the natural frequency of a system shown in Figure A.2. Take k = 1000 N/m, M = 10 kg, m= 2
kg, R = 50 mm and r = 30 mm.

3. A roller shown in Figure A.3 rolls over the surface without slipping. Find the natural frequency of
the system.

4. Find the natural frequency of the system shown in Figure A.4. Establish the condition for system
to be nonvibratory, in terms of `b’.

5. Determine the natural frequency of oscillation of a half solid cylinder of mass `m’ and radius `r’
when it is slightly displayed from mean position and released.
