His Big Confession

Sitting in the front left chair of the classroom was a 13 year old high school girl who
doesn’t talk much. Her name is Victoria. She is shy, demure, smart, and above everything
else, normal. But, everything went upside down when this 14 year old high school guy,
daring as ever, handsome, and chinito-looking, was asked by the teacher to sit next to her. He
had a fancy name, and that was Zachary. Since they don’t know each other, some
awkwardness was felt.

As days passed, both of them started to ease up the tension and then started a
friendship no one expected. Out of nowhere, due to an inside joke, both would laugh and
giggle somehow calling the teacher’s attention during class. Some instances where Zach and
Ria would get each other’s stuff, look into them, and play with them out of boredom. There
are times when both of them would play silly games kids play such as fortune telling,
“FLAMES”, rock-paper-scissors, and chip n’ dale; and have debates on how the game is
supposed to be played. Also, upon getting their results of exams, both would alternatively
jump up and down for a reason Zach got a higher score compared to Ria or the other way
around. When they reached home, they wouldn’t stop talking to their siblings about how each
of them gets on their nerves. From afar, Zach and Ria looked like they have been close
friends for so long yet in reality; they were just starting to get to know each other.

But that night came. It seemed ordinary during the day but there was something
sparkling during the night. Zach, the bold and daring jock, posted on Facebook a status
saying, “Victoria is worth waiting for.” Everyone could see it, like it, and comment on it. And
that wasn’t the only surprise. Zach formally and privately went over to tell his big confession.
Zach didn’t know how to say it. He was nervous the whole way through but somehow
managed to tell her and made a ridiculous bouncing question in the end. With all sincerity in
his face and a smile of true happiness from his eyes, these words came out: “Victoria, out of
all the girls I have met, you are the best.” Nothing can make that statement better but a
reassuring smile and hug Ria gave him. With the fact that Zach is always making fun of her,
he broke the moment and asked: “Are you mad at me for saying that?” Ria’s face was
indescribable, but gave an answer and played along. And the two had a fun night making
jokes, entertaining themselves with gossips, and fighting over who is right and wrong.
However, since the next day was a school day, there was no doubt they wouldn’t see each
other. Devastating as it was, Zach kept his big distance after the big confession. He wouldn’t
sit beside Ria, wouldn’t talk to Ria, and only would give her a glance. This kept on, no
further news about their relationship for the rest of the school year. Until the big news that
was spread about them the year after.

Questions, tons of questions would come up. What happened the year after? Did they
talk it out and finally became a couple? Did they just stay friends? Did they keep the same
distance last year? Out of all those, the statement with the biggest question mark was: “Did
he mean everything he said on that big confession night? Or was it just some petty dare?”

To sum it all up, my life is just like the story I’ve written on from experience. I’ve had
great moments and sad ones as well. Just like a relationship of two people, when he was
showing signs and their friendship was building up, those were my moments when I am
thankful and just simply happy in life. The moment of the big confession was the same
happiness of my graduation day. The moment of his big distance to her was my way of
saying when I have problems, when I have disappointed and have fought with someone dear
to me. But life goes on, how we deal with it forms our character inside.
