Basic Fundamentals of Baseball

A successful player must be able to hit the ball, field the ball, throw it and run the
bases, because it is the basic fundamentals of baseball and is the building blocks of the
game.

Hitting
Hitting the ball is the main idea of baseball. A batter must take a solid stance in the
batter’s box with his left shoulder for a right handed- hitter facing the pitcher. The Bat
is held over the right shoulder, the knees are bent and the weight of the player is
supported by the back leg.

Fielding
When fielding your body should be squarely in front of the ball. When fielding a ball
that comes below your waist, the fingers of the glove must be near the ground. The
Fielder must react to the movement of the ball. When the ball comes above the waist
level, the glove fingers should point upward to catch the ball.

Throwing
Place the ball in your dominant hand and extend your forefinger and middle finger on
top of the ball. Bring the ball to ear level, step foward with your opposite foot and bring
your arm forward to throw the ball. Use your dominant leg to follow through the
throwing motion.

Baserunning
To be a baserunner you must aim to touch the inside corner of the base and make a sharp turn
towards the next base.
