BIAG NI LAM-ANG

Biag ni Lam-Ang is an epic poem from Ilocos Region. It was one of only
two folk epics that is documented during the Spanish Colonial period
here in the Philippines. This epic is being passed on from generation to
generation.

THE AUTHOR
Pedro Bukaneg, a Filipino Poet, he’s been blind since birth. He is an
Ilocano by birth and orinally the author of Biag ni Lam-Ang ( Life of Lam-
Ang). Pedro Bukaneg is considered to be the “Father of Ilocano
Literature. He was born on March 1592 and died at the year of 1630.

He took lessons in Latin and Spanish. He composed songs and poems


and was loved by Ilocanos. Despite of being blind, it never prevented him
to write and compose songs and poems.

SUMMARY
This epic is about a guy named Lam-Ang with extraordinary power and
strength. He started his own journey even when he is still a kid. With his
extraordinary power, strength and greatness, he was able to protect
himself from any danger.

He started his own journey when his father went to a battle but
never returned.
Lam-Ang fell inlove with a lady named Ines Kannoyan. Lam-Ang
impressed Ines with his wealth and with his magical pets.
Lam-Ang died because he was eaten by a big fish. Despite of being
eaten and died, Lam-Ang unexpectedly rose again. After that Lam-Ang
and his wife Ines live their lives happily after.
