How it works: You can hire by the hour or by the project and then track progress
in your “Workroom” where you can “View and manage work-in-progress online
instead of on-site. Messages, screenshots, files and completed work are
automatically saved here”. One nifty feature is the ability to Invite co-workers to
join your Workroom as needed.
Fees: Elance deducts between 6.75% and 8.75% from each payment (depending
on the project budget), transferring the remaining amount directly to the service
provider’s Elance account. In addition, there is a one-time $10 account activation
fee to set up an Employer account.
Our experience: Generally higher quality providers that are bit more expensive.
Probably the best option for larger jobs where you need to hire a team with
strong technical skills, or if you don’t want to be bothered with mediocre
providers. Note that in 2013, desk merged with Elance although both websites
retained their separate identities.

(b) Which site did you find most useful and why?
ANS: Each one of these web portals has its own merits and demerits. Of the
following freelancing web sites
(www.monster.com, www.vworker.com, www.guru.comand www.elance.com).
Almost everything is common, excepting dispute resolution and job types.
www.guru.com: Very simple interface, easy to work links, a large pool of
freelancers and employers, easy dispute resolution, nice rating system and easy
payment system for freelancers, excellent Safe Pay a freelancing web portal
comes completely free to freelancers, though with a higher fee structure of 15%
of total value. Professionally done web site with excellent features and links,
Excellent dispute resolution system that is free of charge to both parties, perhaps
the largest pool of freelancers from all over the world, very good for technical
jobs, great reporting system, wonderful payment system for freelancers through
a number of methods.
www.monster.com: A professional web portal that has changed the way in which
hourly payment system works! However, fixed price system is a bit flawed
because of absence of an escrow system. It is a good portal with thousands of
experienced freelancers.
www.elance.com: Another great web portal for both employers and freelancers!
However, the only grouse is the flawed dispute resolution system that charges a
hefty fee for both parties. For newcomers, getting a job on this site could be very
tough and challenging. Employers seem to love this site while the average value
of freelancing job seems to be higher when compared to other sites.
