Back
Skill Covered: Algebraic thinking, number sense, math facts, missing addends, missing
factors.
Grade Range: 2- 5
Supplies: Chalkboard or whiteboard, writing utensils and a student who is good at their
math facts.
Mode and duration: Whole Group, 10-20 minutes
To Play:
The object of the game is to try and guess the other person’s number
before they guess yours. Two students stand at the whiteboard. They
write a number up on the chalkboard so the other student can’t see. The
caller states the product or sum of the two numbers. The first person to
guess the other person’s number wins. The “loser” chooses a new person to
come up to the chalkboard.
Guess Number
Skill Covered: Number sense, greater than, less than, skip counting.
Grade Range: K- 5
Supplies: Hundreds Chart, dry erase marker
Mode and duration: Whole Group, small group, pairs, 10-20 minutes
To Play:
The object of the game is to try and guess the number the
player chooses by using a series of question clues. A student
chooses a number and keeps it to himself. Others ask question
clues to help narrow down their search for the number. As
students ask questions, the player crosses off numbers it can
not be based on the previous clues.

Top-It
Grade Range: 1 - 5
Supplies: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division math fact cards.
Mode and duration: Pairs, groups of 3 or 4 students, 10-20 minutes
To Play:
This game is played in the same way “War” is played with traditional
cards. Students distribute cards equally until all cards are dealt. On the
count of three, students draw one fact card, the person with the
highest sum or product wins all the cards in play. Can be played with
the lowest difference or quotient if playing with subtraction or
division cards. If students have a tie, they draw again and the highest
card wins all cards in play.
