ASSIGNMENT 1

NAME SULEMAN IKHTIAR CHAUDHRY

ROLL NUMBER BEE-027 SECTION C

Q) Calculate the flux of the electric field E,

through the surface A, in each of the three cases shown:

a)  = E.A = EAcosθ = EAcos0 = EA

b)  = E.A = EAcosθ = EAcos90 = 0

c)  = E.A = EAcosθ
Here θ is the angle between a
perpendicular vector to the area and the electric field.
Q) For which of these closed surfaces (a, b, c, d) the flux of the electric field, produced by the
charge +2q, is zero?

Ans: The flux of the electric field produced by the +2q, is zero for the surfaces a,d and c. In the
case of surfaces d and c the flux is zero because there is no charge enclosed by these surfaces.
For surface a it is zero because there are as many field lines entering and leaving it.

Q) Calculate the flux of the electric field  for each of the closed surfaces a, b, c, and d

Ans) Surface a, a = Zero

Surface b, b = +2q/ ε0

Surface c, c = charge enclosed by the surface / ε0 = +q+(-q) / ε0 = 0

Surface d, d = charge enclosed by the surface / ε0 = 0
