Sample Performance Task

As a class, learn two social or traditional dances of the 18th and 19th (or 20th) centuries. Write at least
one paragraph on each dance describing it in its historical and cultural context (who, what, where, when
and why). Stage the dances for an audience. Participate in a discussion or "free write" of how your
experience in learning and performing these dances changed when they were performed for an audience.
