NEBOSH NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN OCCUPATIONAL

HEALTH AND SAFETY


OVERVIEW

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Diploma is delivered on a modular
basis and is designed to provide the specialist knowledge and understanding combined with application
of expertise that underpins competent performance as a safety and health practitioner. The Diploma
comprises of four assessed units:

Unit A: Managing Health & Safety This module comprises the principles of
health & safety management and includes organisational and human factors,
incident investigation and emergency planning. The principles of health and
safety law (criminal and civil) law are also covered in this unit.
Unit B: Hazardous Agents in the Workplace This module covers the general
aspects of occupational health and hygiene. It comprises the principles of
toxicology and epidemiology and includes identification, evaluation and
control of hazardous substances. Other topics will cover chemical, biological,
physical, ergonomic and psycho-social agents. 
Unit C: Workplace and Work Equipment This module covers the hazards
associated with fire, work equipment, mechanical handling, electricity,
construction & demolition and environmental pollution & waste management.
Unit DNI: Application of Health and Safety Theory and Practice Candidates are
required to conduct a detailed review of the health and safety performance of
a workplace and produce a report to include a justified action plan to improve
overall performance.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students wishing to enrol for this programme must complete a Pre-Entry questionnaire. It is strongly
recommended that candidates possess the NEBOSH General Certificate first as this programme will
assume prior knowledge at this level. Those candidates who gained a credit distinction in their NEBOSH
General Certificate assessment will have provided sufficient qualification for entry.

ASSESSMENT
Units A, B, & C are all assessed by examination only. Candidates are required to successfully complete a
3 - hour examination for these units. For Unit DNI candidates will have to produce an 8000 word (min)
workplace assignment. All components are set and marked externally by NEBOSH.
