Presentation of carried out activity

I took full time internship during my second semester of A.Y. 2012/2013 In a studio Piuarch Srl..
Where I was a part of a team working on a project in ex Caproni in Milan.

Project started in several years ago and it is still going on, and is supposed to be realized in upcoming
few years.

My academic tutor was professor Alessandra Oppio, company’s tutor – architect Mauro Mandelli.

In this report I am going to describe my activity with experiences and present my work developed in
a studio.

Where I was a part of a team working on a project – ex Caproni in Milan, in via Mecenate 79.

In this project is about refurbishing ex industrial area and creating new offices, showrooms, cafes,
exposition spaces, underground parking and etc. During the time of the project, normative has
changed so the project was changing accordingly – from 3 proposed towers – remained only one
(the one visible in the picture above) with offices and services, on which I was working. Client is one
of famous fashion homes, which name for privacy reason will not be mentioned.

Now construction works has started and previous building under the new tower had been already
destroyed and underground parking is being laid.

I was preparing the layout of the office building spaces, furniture, did research on electrical
installations and possible combinations between working space arrangement and rational
disposition of electrical – telecommunication services. I had been given the interval of working
spaces which are expected to be, so I had to be also very rational. I have also prepared almanac of
possible typologies of working spaces according to the modulus of structural elements, window
openings, archiving spaces, spaciousness according to the hierarchy and task would be executed.
Then I was also participating in meeting – discussions about the project, participated in construction

of a physical model, discussions about the materials should be used, building components. Last thing

I did was quoting the plans for tender phase and preparing them for the presentation.

From point of view in practice and knowledge I got acquired:

Got introduced to the internal studio rules, workflow – using cross references in AutoCAD, using
server, archiving and naming in a correct order, and to the use of layers with plot stiles. Those things
were always interested for me, as I like to optimize the work as efficient as possible, so I am very
happy for acquainting this type of knowledge.

Working on a real project thought me also other things about meetings, decision on changes in the
project and working – collaborating in a team.

Final considerations

I would like to say that studio atmosphere was really nice, they are all very professional, and I think it
is a good place to make an internship for student. I was felt always respected, and had always
response to the questions about the project. Everyone was very tolerant and I feel very motivated to
go there.

Also following a real project everyday got my eye a bit more used to some dimensions of walls,
components and spaces, which I believe will going to save my time when I will be projecting.

I got also a bit more acquainted to the normative, and regulations to be respected.

My internship was in Italian language, and it was a nice opportunity to enrich my architectural
vocabulary.

I would like to conclude, that I had a good very positive experience and I am convinced even more,
that I am on my right way to become architect.
