Vitamin D3 And Multiple Sclerosis

Research has shown that myelin cannot repair itself without a healthy daily supply of
vitamin D3. Long term studies reveal that MS patients who receive a healthy daily dose of
Vitamin D3 suffer less disability and have MRI’s scans with fewer lesions when compared
with MS patients with low blood levels of Vitamin D3.

The Chemistry of Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 manufactured from sunlight exposure or ingested in supplements is inactive

until converted in the kidneys and liver to ‘activated’ vitamin D3.
Only activated vitamin D3 reverses damage to myelin and suppresses auto immune activity.
Inactive Vitamin D3 is of no medical value.

Each patient has a different level of vitamin D they are capable of converting. When the
body is given more vitamin D3 then it is capable of converting a severe worsening of MS
symptoms can occur. If you ever experience a dramatic worsening of symptoms after
starting vitamin D always reduce the dose or you may trigger a disabling MS event.

Even 16,000 - 20,000 iu of vitamin D3 per day with an adequate supply of magnesium can
sometimes have life changing benefits for MS patients.

While Many MS and Auto Immune patients thrive on mega doses of Vitamin D3 significant
number of patients have better outcomes with doses of 18,000 iu to 40,000 iu per day when
combined with medical grade magnesiums.

The maximum amount of vitamin D a person can manufacture from sun exposure is 500
mcg or 20,000 iu per day. Vitamin D3 is manufactured by people living in the Northern
hemisphere for only six months of each year. From September 21st to March 21st the sun
does not rise high enough in the sky to cause vitamin D3 to be produced.

Which Brands of Vitamin D3 to Use

Vitamin D3 drops from Life Extension (non mint version) are added to a very high quality
medium chain triglyceride (fat) which gives better results for many MS patients. However, if
your MS symptoms become much worse after taking this product switch to Healthy Origins
Vitamin D3 in cold pressed olive oil as these may give better results. There are also MS
patients who need a mix of both products.

Micellised Vitamin D3

When MS patients have severe reactions to normal Vitamin D3, New Beginings Micellised
Vitamin D3 which is converted from inactive to active in the lymph system can be utilized
instead and for many patients will work very well either by itself or in combination with
normal vitamin D3.
