Tourist: Organized Mass Tourists - the least adventurous and remains confined in his
"comfort zone". The guided tour, the air-conditioned bus, buys package tours, itinerary is
fixed in advance and no decisions are made during the trip.

Destination: Palawan, Philippines

Brief Background:

The province of Palawan is

an archipelagic province of
the Philippines that is located
in MIMAROPA region. It is
the largest province in the
country in terms of total area
of jurisdiction. Its capital is
the city of Puerto Princesa
also known as the "Eco-
Tourism Center of the
Philippines".

Puerto Princesa, the main

city located in the midsection
of the Palawan province, is
best known for its natural
beauty. It features a tropical
wet and dry climate. It is usually wet from May to December and with very little rain
from January to April. Historically, the place was named after Maria Cristina, one of the
princesses born to Isabella II of Spain and her consort, Francis, Duke of Cádiz. When the
princess suffered an untimely death, the Queen changed the name to Puerto de la
Princesa. Eventually, the name was shortened to Puerto Princesa.

On the other hand, El Nido is a popular tourist destination at the northern tip of Palawan.
With overall 45 islands located in Bacuit Bay, it gained a massive worldwide attention
for its pristine white beaches, towering limestone cliffs, scenic mountains, mysterious
caves, startling wildlife, enchanting lagoons and rich coral garden. It is currently ranked
#4 in Condé Nast Traveler's list of "20 Most Beautiful Beaches in the World", while
CNNGo has called it the Best Beach and Island destination in the Philippine for its
"extraordinary natural splendor and ecosystem."

minute drive from the Puerto Princesa International Airport. Easily accessible, the inn is about 0.5
kilometers from the city proper, close enough to the local points of interest (iconic restaurants and
other commercial establishments) but just far enough from the hustle and bustle (and noise!) of
the city. The rooms can be accommodated by two to four persons, air-conditioned and the
interiors are pleasantly simple yet inviting and chic. Each has its own backyard and a lanai.
CCTV security, cable television, an intercom, a standby power generator, free Wi-Fi access and
daily breakfast are also provided. Tourists can even request for laundry service or a massage.

PALAWAN WILDLIFE RESCUE AND CONSERVATION CENTER

Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center formerly known as the Crocodile
Farm and Nature Park, aims to preserve and conduct further research studies on endangered
species of crocodiles. The eight-acre facility has room for up to 4,000 crocodiles. There is a
building with an exhibit area that displays crocodile skeletons. An audio-visual presentation on
the center’s program may also be viewed here. There is a room where newly born baby crocodiles
are kept. They may be petted with supervision from the animal handlers. The older crocodiles that
are below five feet in length are kept right behind the building, while the crocodiles that are more
than five feet in length are kept outside in an open pond. Visitors may view them, take
photographs, and feed them from a bridge. There is also a small wildlife park at the back of the
facility. Monkeys, birds, and other animals roam the zoo grounds freely. Some endangered
endemic species can be seen here. The PWRCC also runs a souvenir shop on the premises, where
they sell products made from crocodile skin and other gift items.

HONDA BAY (STARFISH ISLAND, LULI ISLAND AND COWRIE ISLAND)

Honda Bay is a bay on the eastern shore of the island of Palawan near Puerto Princesa
City in the southwestern Philippines. The bay is used for
both subsistence and commercial fisheries and recreation. Boats can be rented for the day and
used for travel to nearby islands, just like in Starfish Island where a lot of starfish can be found.
Starfish Island is a snorkeling location and it also has a small number of stilt huts used for
accommodation. And looking on the depth part you will see schools of yellowtail snappers,
fusiliers and some puffers. Next stop would be the Luli Island, this island is composed of three
long sandbars where you can have the chance of walking on one of the narrowest sandbars in
Honda Bay. The local vernacular “lulubog-lilitaw” explains this island’s shorten name “Lu-li”.
“Lulubog” means “to submerge” while “lilitaw” means “to emerge”. If you want to visit this
island you have to ask the boatmen what time you can visit the island. Luli Island shows itself
only during low tides, when the island looks like a desert in the middle of the ocean, accompanied
by mangrove trees. A popular activity in Luli Island is feeding the fishes: try to lure the fishes to
swim near to you for that up, close and personal encounter. The last stop for the Honday Bay tour
would be Cowrie Island which is famous for being one of the finest stops when you are having a
beach/island hopping in Puerto Princesa. You'll appreciate the island's fine sands as well as the
large space for you to have your team or family activities. It's also a place where you can chill
and have a relaxing massage.
PALAWAN BUTTERFLY ECOLOGICAL GARDEN AND TRIBAL VILLAGE

The Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village is a place that reflects the
mesmerizing beauty of a province that is known as the "Last Frontier of the Philippines". It
showcases a sheer variety or tropical butterflies from the Southern region of the country. These
free flying butterflies are surrounded with live exhibits of scorpions, green-crested lizards,
phasmid and mantises which are considered their natural predators. It is a window to the natural
ecology of these colorful insects. Another added attraction is the rescued endemic wildlife of
Palawan. These animals are given the chance of a second life by being rescued from poachers and
wouldn't have survived in the wild because of the probability of suffering the same fate all over
again.

UNDERGROUND RIVER TOUR

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean National Park, where the Underground River is found,
has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1999. It has also been chosen as one of the modern
Seven Wonders of the World. The river is also called 'Puerto Princesa Underground River'. The
national park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the western coast of the island. It is
bordered by St. Paul Bay to the north and the Babuyan River to the east. The City Government of
Puerto Princesa has managed the National Park since 1992.

MITRA’S RANCH

The Sta. Monica Ranch, also known as Mitra’s Ranch, is an extraordinary getaway that
will give tourists a different commune with nature. Owned by the Philippine Senator Ramon
Mitra, you can experience farm life with a serene and relaxing view of green fields, cows and
horses.

The ranch has been one of the favorite destinations for those who want to meditate and
ponder. Located in the hilly and terrain landscape of Sta. Monica, the ranch has a beautiful view
deck that offers the most breathtaking view of Palawan and of Puerto Princesa. Tourists can
have a walk around and just feel and breath the fresh air. The whole environment is good to
photograph especially those beautiful and serene landscapes and also with the farm animals.

BAKER’S HILL

Baker’s Hill is one of the tourist attraction in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Baker’s Hill is
literally on top of a hill where a number of bakers work together to offer deliciously baked
goodies for tourists and visitors.
EL NIDO PALAWAN (SMALL LAGOON, BIG LAGOON, SECRET LAGOON AND
SHIMIZU ISLAND)

El Nido is a Philippine municipality on Palawan island. It’s known for white-sand

beaches, coral reefs and as the gateway to the Bacuit archipelago, a group of islands with steep
karst cliffs. One of those is the Miniloc Island who is famed for the clear waters of its Small and
Big lagoons. The Small Lagoon is accessible through a gap between two giant limestone rocks
that appear to be about to kiss each other. Through this little space, one can swim or kayak into
the lagoon. It is actually these cliffs, and the rocks and corals in the shallow part of the area that
temper the waves, protecting the water in the lagoon from the all whatever violent events in the
open sea. Nearby Shimizu Island have fish-filled waters. On the other hand, Big Lagoon gives
every tourist the beautiful, dark and deep forests surrounding the whites of the beaches; the clear,
almost shockingly blue tranquil water of the sea; and even the pure white gold of the beaches are
worth staring at. One will never run of things to explore in the Big Lagoon area. There is a vast
array of wildlife present in Big Lagoon- the unique insects and crabs that seem to rule those
lands, the extraordinary greenery surrounding the islands, the overpowering blueness of the sky
and the water, the ancient limestone cliffs standing on guard on the island, the peaceful and calm
atmosphere of the Lagoon. Secret Lagoon is a small pool of water hidden within one of the most
incredible El Nido, Palawan. It is actually an open secret, and a very popular one at that.
Concealed behind the towering karst cliffs, the Secret Lagoon seems like a precious masterpiece
that the dark limestone walls need to protect at all cost. Last stop would be the Shimizu Island,
the small beach is surrounded by towering limestone rock formations that add to the impressive
and amazing experience on the island. This was named after Shimizu, a Japanese who died from
diving in the underwater tunnel beneath the island. Exactly how it happened remains a mystery,
but Shimizu lost his life on that fateful day. Although it happened a long time ago, the underwater
tunnel is still off limits for visitors. Snorkeling is a popular activity on Shimizu Island because of
a large variety of marine life, especially turtles, squids, clams and different fish, which makes it
one of the best snorkeling spots in El Nido.

BINUTUAN CREATIONS

Binuatan Weaving Center, or also known as Binuatan Creations Handloom Weaving is a

well-known handicraft shop that manufactures handloom woven products utilizing Palawan’s
indigenous fibers. The goal of the company is to transform field grasses and fibers that can be
found in Palawan into useful and functional products. Binuatan is a cuyonin word (native
Palawan dialect) for creation. Here, they transform locally sourced materials like amumuting,
buri, or abaca fibers into great exported goods like placemats, hand bags, blinds, and other
products. As expected, Binuatan Creations is very successful that they get their products exported
to other countries like the U.S.A.

ISLAND SHOUVERNIRS SHOPS

TIANGE-TIANGE

It is located just at Center of the City and is offering a wide range of souvenirs, from the
usual t-shirts and keychains to locally crafted pasalubong specials. Kasuy (cashew) specialties
like brittles and candies or begnay (a type of wild fruit found in Palawan) wine can be found here,
along with carvings and weaving made by indigenous people from Southern Palawan.
