INTRODUCTION

A school uniform consist of a limited range of clothing, including footwear and headwear
where locals will instantly able to recognize which school a student belongs to just by looking at their
clothing. It also enhances school pride, unity and community spirit. A uniform means students don’t

3
have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes because everyone dressed the same,
and worrying about what you look like isn’t so important Therefore, school or university usually
expect their students to wear the uniform during school hours because the whole school community
has a role to play in encouraging standards and expectations from the community.

The wearing of school uniform is supported strongly by the Far Eastern University community
and is a symbol of pride in the school. There is an expectation that students will comply with the dress
requirements and that valuable school time won’t need to be diverted to following up on the breachers
of school uniform policy.

The policy on university shall be enforced whenever a student enter the campus and while
inside the campus, whether he/she has classes or not and regardless of the day of the week. P.E.
uniforms shall also be considered proper uniform.

The researchers will use alternatives for the said policy. For girls, skirts must be worn at a
modest length (1 inch above the knee) and blouse must be not too fitted with black flat shoes or with
at least 1 inch of heels. For boys, they must use white sando as an undershirt, pants must not be too
tight and must be lower the ankle with black socks above the ankle. For boys and girls, the sleeves of
the polo/blouse must not be folded with school ID with an official FEU lace.

The purpose of this analysis is to require the students to wear a proper assigned uniform to
avoid such sexual and verbal harassment and even discrimination when it comes to clothing.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

In this generation, most students prefer to wear tight and short uniforms because they are
conscious and they are afraid to be judge by others. By that, students and the school are affected by
this which causes the outcome of the policy to be set aside. The outcome of the policy from the past
and the present is still the same because, most students ignore this policy since the school is lack of
authority and restrictions when it comes to school uniform. In Far Eastern University, most students
especially girls, are being sexually harass such as catcalling, whistling, staring at their legs and the
likes because of their short skirt inside or outside the campus. It is urgent to be resolve because it
shows disrespect and also the image or reputation of the school is being damage.

DISCUSSION ON POLICY OPTIONS

4
The advantages of this policy are: it will lessen the risk of sexual harassment and
discrimination inside and outside the school, it promotes a safe and healthy learning environment and
less stress when it comes to choosing a wardrobe. While, the disadvantage of this policy are: many
students will complain about the said policy, lots of low-income families cannot afford to buy a school
uniform and removing students from class because of an inability to afford a school uniform
reinforces socioeconomic stereotypes.

Based on our research, Ateneo De Manila University and De La Salle University are strict
when it comes to school uniform. They are implementing a such policy where female students must
wear their pencil-cut skirts at a modest length and a pair of 1 inch closed heeled shoe and male
students must wear their appropriate uniform with plain white undershirt and black socks with black
leather shoes. They believe that achieving justness of their uniform policy helps their students to gain
and to appreciate the value of rules and regulations to deter students from committing violations in
the future. Also to strengthen the character and uphold the good name of the school.

The researchers gathered a data from Grade 11, 12 and College students from Far Eastern
University. There are five (5) questions in our survey that questions about the uniform policy inside
the campus.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

The researchers concluded that most of their suggested policy agreed on the majority of the
students (Grade 11 and 12, and College) of the Far Eastern University. Most of the girl’s skirt in
Senior High School are short, literally. The researchers studies at FEU and they can observe that most
of the girl’s skirt are almost up to 2-3 inches above the knee. In addition, most students are agree to
extend the girl’s skirt. According to the data that the researchers have gathered, seventy percent (70%)
of students in Grade 11 and 12, and ninety-one percent (91%) of the college students are agree to
extend the length of the FEU-SHS skirt. This simply means that, majority of students also observed
that most skirts are too short and the best way is to extend it.
Another problem within the FEU-SHS uniform is the folded sleeves of a polo. Most boys fold
the sleeves of their polo for an extra style which must not be tolerated since it is not appropriate.
According to the data that the researchers have gathered, eighty percent (80%) of the Grade 11
students, ninety percent (90%) of the Grade 12 students and sixty percent (60%) of the college
students are agree with the researchers that folding of the sleeves of a polo is inappropriate. Thus, if
the student within the campus does not agree with this, it must not be tolerated and the policy that the
researchers have created for this issue may help solve the case.
The most students with heels as observed by the researchers are the Grade 11 students. Some
heels are overly high and they looked like they’re going to a fashion show instead of going to school.
The best way to reduce overly high heels is to limit the inch of the heels, which is a policy that is
created by the researchers. In Grade 11, one hundred percent (100%) of the surveyed students said
that they didn’t agree with having limits when it comes to the height of their heels. While in seventy
percent (70%) of the Grade 12 students and fifty-five percent (55%) of the College students are agree
to limit the height of their heels. Therefore, majority of the Grade 12 and College students from the
FEU also wants to have limits on the height of their heels.
The only policy that the researchers proposed and most of the students disagree is the policy
about the ID lace. Most of the students, especially in college, wants to wear different ID lace. There
is a fifty-fifty (50/50) mark on Grade 11 and 12 results, meaning, half of the surveyed students wants
to wear different ID laces and others don’t. However, in college, majority of them wants to wear or
agrees on wearing different ID laces. Thus, the policies about the skirt, polo, and heels may be good
if it is approved because most students also prefer or agrees with the policies.

The researchers recommend to the next generation of analysts to expand the policy regarding
uniforms. The researchers would also like to recommend to make an analysis and a solution regarding
the dismissal time of the students. The researchers observe that, every time that the FEU-SHS is

11
having a program, the students can’t leave/go outside the school, since, the guards will block their
way at the gates. Sometimes, the program will end up late, not considering the students living from
afar.
