PREFACE

At the very beginning I would like to thank my teacher Prof (Dr) . Sanjay Singh for
giving me the freedom to choose the topic of my choice. I am taking this topic as
my area of research as I have felt some difference in both school hostel life and
college which I need to express it through my project.

I am thankful to my parents , my teacher and at last god almighty.

The details and analysis is based on my experience in Sainik School Kunjpura as a

school student and my current experience in Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National
Law University, Lucknow.
INTRODUICTION

Life in hostel is always a different experience, people enjoy a different kind of

atmoshphere in hostel, be it a college hostel or a school hostel. The bond of
friendship which you share with your colleague is different from that you share
being a day boarder.

You have different kind of experience, in fact hostel life makes you more bold,
adaptable, tough. Once you have spent a decent time in hostel you are not going to
faced those difficulties which a day boarder is ought to face once he is out in the
middle to face the world.

I have spent my school days in Sainik School Kunjpura, a lush green campus of
275 acres. Life in that very area is very different as compared to the outer walls.
The boys could be well spotted when they go for their monthly outing, the most
awaited town leave. That too is limited for 8 hours and only students from class 8 th
and beyond have the fancy privilege of enjoying a town leave. So one thing is very
much clear that the boys who are rather called cadets don’t have the exposure of
the world beyond the four walls of Sainik School Kunjpura, abbreviated as SSK.
People also prefer to call it saat saal ki kaid.

The biggest problem of it is being a full fledged boys school ,which makes the
cadets look like hungry wolves when they are in interaction with girls. This is all
because they have never interacted to any girl but and they have watched a girl
only either in movies but more in porn movies. Teenage Fantasy of porn movies is
something which cannot avoid or miss being a student of a boys schools that too
Sainik School. And I think this is a major difference between college hostel and
school hostel. Some more comparison wil be given in the analysis in the project.
COMPARISION

STRICTNESS -It is one aspect which differentiates both the phases of life all
together. The level of strictness in school was much higher as compared to what
here in my college, everything there was according to time, sleeping, eating,
playing. Here what lacks in college is disciple , there is no such
boundations.Though the likes of Mr. Vipul Vinod, our warden has made our life
tougher than before with his useless rules which are more like troubles. Here, I feel
that my school life in hostel was much disciplined and strict as compared to
Lohiya National Law University.

RAGGING OR POSITIVE INTERACTION- Ragging or so called positive

interaction is a thing which binds both of them together in a thread, but there is a
vital difference , the ragging is limited to only first year in our college whereas you
can be be a victim to ragging till you are super senior means till you are in class
12th . The next thing is level of ragging, in school ragging and punishments used to
send chills down our spines. Our ragging was a quality one which started with
making cock for hours, being beaten with bats and hockey sticks, wires etc. What
constitutes ragging here is very different and in a rate out of 10 I wont rate it even
0.5. So in a nutshell ragging here for me was a fun activity which I enjoyed more
than the seniors.

Drinking and smoking habits- This is one thing which separates my school from
not only from my college but from many other secondary schools. The instances of
smoking and drinking which can be well spotted in other secondary schools of
India is hard to trace in cadets of my school. There are rare instances of there
habits being growing in students of my school. If Being caugt they are dealt
severely not only by the staffs but also by the seniors.
CROWD-The crowd there is not so diverse , they compromises of either the boys
from Haryana , U.P, Bihar and Few from Rajasthan. So we can't call it a diverse
crowd. Despite being a National Law University the crowd in my college is also
that not diverse. Reservation being a major factor in determining the crowd , 50%
of the total seats are reserved for SC ST OBC of the state categories and rest also
opting for the same out of lesser fee and being close to their home town. My
college ensures elite class crowd by providing NRI seats in the college. The co-ed
strutcture makes its all together different affair from my school.
CONCLUSION

I would like to conclude by saying that though there are different things that make
the my hostel life and college life look apart but the one thing which is similar is
the strong sense of brotherhood and unity among the students.
