you’ll be visiting all this week. The special thing about the colors in this kingdom is that
every night, they change! And every color is very special, because it stands for
something true and important.

Tonight, our color is what? GOLD! Yes! You can probably tell from the gold you see
everywhere. Let’s jump right in and find out just what all this gold stands for!

Now, this story is told like a make believe story. And it even starts with “Once Upon a
Time.” But this story is a true story, and it’s the most important story of all. So sit up in
your seats, and let’s get started…

(DRAMA BEGINS)

Narrator: Once upon a time, there was a King.

(King enters the stage, and stands either in front of the throne backdrop, or in center
stage.)

Now this wasn’t just any king. There are lots of different kings, and there have been all
through history. Wise kings, Foolish kings. Wicked kings, good kings. Young and old
kings, rich and even poor kings. But this king was different. He didn’t have a small
kingdom, or even a medium kingdom. He ruled… everything. He was the King over all
kings that have ever lived.

And he wasn’t just smart. He was the wisest king. He knew everything that ever
happened, and everything that would happen. He knew what was right, and what was
wrong. He was never, ever wrong. Ever.
And did I mention that he was good? Oh, he wasn’t just sorta good, the way a good king
ought to be. No. He was completely, 100%, TOTALLY good. He never, EVER, thought
one wicked thing or did one bad thing. He was perfect.

So this king, over all kings, perfect, wise, good. This king had servants. Like all kings
have servants. These servants had different jobs, and I don’t even know what all the
jobs were. Remember, this king had a huuuuuuge kingdom.

But some of these servants had the job of playing music. And here they are now,
they’ve come to play for the king.

(Enter the servants, and evil servants, all with musical instruments, wearing white shirts.)

This is these servants’ job. It’s what they were made to do. They do it well, and it
pleases the king, and it makes the servants’ themselves, happy, too, to know that they
are serving the best king. Just look at this servant here. She looks so happy, doesn’t
she? And that one, too! When the king assigned them this job, he knew that it was the
best job for them. The king is so good at choosing just the right job for each of his
servants.

But… wait. Look at that servant over there, on the left. He doesn’t look happy. He
looks… grumpy.

In fact, he looks miserable.

Let me tell you about him. This servant has a problem. It’s not that he can’t play the
music, he’s actually one of the best players. It’s that… he’s thinking these thoughts:

“Why should I, the best musician, have to play with the rest of these servants?”
“Why doesn’t anyone notice how much better I am?”
“Why doesn’t the king tell everyone how good I am?”
“In fact, I think I’m maybe just as good as the king himself. I don’t know why I have to be
just a servant…”

There were lots of other thoughts like this. Instead of enjoying his place at the side of the
best king ever, this wicked servant let his thoughts and his heart turn away. And when
he did that, the king knew.

I told you the king knew everything.

As soon as the wicked servants heart turned away from the king, he was no longer able
to serve the king. The good king can have only good servants, ones that trust him and
love him. The wicked servant didn’t trust the king, and didn’t love him. He only loved
himself.

(The wicked servant peels off his white shirt to reveal a black one underneath. He throws
the white shirt down.)

Sadly, knowing the pain that would come in the future, the king sent the servant away.

(The music pauses as the king points away, and the wicked servant throws down his
instrument, makes a terrible face, and runs away.)
Now the kingdom went on, and the music resumed.

I’ll tell you more about that wicked servant later. But let me tell you now about what else
happened.

(The musicians exit.)

The good king built something- a beautiful place. It had water and trees and flowers,
and animals. And then, when it was perfect, he made something new.

He made two children.

(Enter two children, with white shirts, a boy and a girl. They look around as if amazed.
He brings them by their hands to center stage.)

The king was so pleased with the children. He showed them all the wonderful things he
had made for them, and loved to see them laugh at the monkeys, and dive in the water,
and taste the fruits that grew. He loved them- because they were his children. And they
loved him, too.

(Enter wicked servant, on the side, watching.)

But the wicked servant didn’t love them. I think he was jealous. Why did the good king
make such a beautiful home for them? Why did the king love them so much? Maybe he
didn’t think they were that special.

Whatever the reason, he hated them. And he hated that the king and the children were
so happy together.

Tomorrow night, we’ll find out just what he did to try to put a stop to that.

(Exit actors)
(END DRAMA)

Teacher:

Okay, everyone. What a story! Now we know what the gold stands for… at least, I think
you do.
Can anyone tell me? (The king!)
Yes! Gold stand for the king! Gold reminds us of the good king, the best king, the King of
Kings!

The whole reason we come here, to Color Kingdom VBS, but also every Sunday, is to
learn more about this king. We call him God. The Color Kingdom drama showed him as
a man, but the true king is a Spirit. The true King, Our God, is good- so good, in fact, that
he is truly perfect and truly good- he is a special word- “holy.” Holy means perfect and
good and more important than anything else. Can you say that? (Allow for response.)

That’s right, I want you to remember that word. It’s the most important word about God.
God is Holy. He is good, and he is perfect.
Now, the Color Kingdom story said that the King sits on a throne. It’s true! He really
does. The bible, God’s true story, tells us that God sits on a throne surrounded by a
rainbow. He is the highest king, King over all the other Kings.

And he really does have servants- we have a special word for them- angels! And just like
the servants in this story played music, the angels of heaven worship God. Worship is
when you give honor to someone through bowing, singing, playing music, or even just
telling someone how great they are.

The Bible tells us that God is the only one in the universe that we should worship. We
shouldn’t worship idols. We shouldn’t bow down to other people. We shouldn’t let
anyone or anything else in the whole world or universe be higher in our hearts than God
is. He’s the ONLY ONE we should worship. One of our memory verses for today is from
1 Timothy 1:17. It says, “Now, to the King eternal, immortal, invisible… To God alone
who is wise, be glory and honor forever and ever!”

That’s a long verse, with some big words! Let’s go through them. Timothy is a man, and
he’s writing about our king- God! He’s saying, “Okay, now, you know what we should
give the king? Our king? Our eternal, immortal, invisible, and wise king? We should give
him glory and honor!”

Wait, wait, wait. You don’t know what eternal, immortal, invisible means?
Well. Eternal means… forever!

Everyone say that: “Eternal means forever.”

(Use slide if possible)

It means God never started, and he’ll never end. He’s always been there, forever! It
means he’s been here before the earth even started! And he’ll always be here.

Immortal… That means he can never die!

(Use slide if possible)

Repeat after me: “Immortal means he’ll never die.”

No one can ever beat him. He’s stronger, more powerful, and greater than anything else,
EVER! It also means that he has no weakness. No one will ever be able to outsmart God
and hurt him.

And Invisible? That’s what I meant when I said God is a spirit. We can’t see him.

So… say, “Invisible means we can’t see him.”

(Use slide if possible)

At least not now. Someday, when we’re in heaven with him, we’ll be able to see him.
And there are people who have written in the bible to tell us about him. But for now, he’s
invisible.

So let’s see… Now, To our king- our eternal, immortal, invisible King… To God, who
alone is wise. Do you know what that means? It means NO one is smarter than him. To
God, alone, who is wise, be glory and honor.
(Use slide if possible)
I guess I should explain what glory and honor are, huh?

Well, glory is when… Well, let’s you were walking along the beach, and you found an
AMAZING sand castle. There were children all around, but you didn’t know which child
built it. It’s really, really amazing. There are towers, and bridges, and little sand knights
and little sand ladies. The children all gather around, and you ask them who did it. And
then one little girl says, “My brother made it!”
And everyone turns around, and there’s a 5 year old boy with a sand bucket.
“You built this?” you say, and he nods. Everyone is so amazed, they start clapping! All
the kids are going WHOAAA and WOW!!! And “THIS IS SO COOL!” and a few of the
moms and dads pull out their phones and start taking pictures, and soon everyone at the
whole beach is standing around whistling and cheering, and the boy’s dad lifts him up
high, and everyone cheers and yells and claps for this awesome kid who built this
amazing thing!!!

Well, THAT would be glory. When someone is honored for something they’ve done, or
for how amazing they are, that’s glory.

So, who deserves all the glory? ALL the glory?

It’s God! God, our eternal, immortal, invisible, ALL WISE, KING!

And Honor is like that. Honor is like what you’d give any king. If you were to walk into a
room right now, and the president of the United States were there, you’d probably be
very polite. You’d use your best manners. In some countries, when someone important
enters, everyone actually bows, sometimes with their foreheads touching the ground!
That’s honor. And the bible says God deserves you know how much of it?
All of it!

So our God, the eternal, Immortal, invisible, all wise king- deserves ALL the honor and
glory. Wow! What a great king to have! I mean, there are lots of kings! But isn’t it nice to
know we have the BEST king?

There’s another true part of this drama- and that’s the part with the children. The bible,
God’s true story, tells us that God made this whole earth, and then he made two people,
the first two people, to live in it. And just like the king enjoyed these children, God
enjoyed the first two people. What the bible also says is that he not only made those first
two children, but he made every single person who has ever lived. That means he made
you! And he loves you very much.

Isn’t that amazing? This great, AMAZING, BEST EVER King- made you! And he loves
you. That’s the best news in the world. Isn’t it?

But you know what? Just as in this Color Kingdom, there is an enemy. He hates God,
and he hates God’s children. We’re going to find out more about him tomorrow, and
about what happened to the King’s kids.

But for now, we’re going to focus on God- the King! Because he’s the most important
thing!

Let me see how much you remember… Hmm…

First of all, What’s our color tonight? (Gold!)

Who does gold stand for? ( The King.)
Who does the Color Kingdom king represent? (God!)
Who is the only one we should worship? (God!)
Who made you? (God!)
Who is the Holy One? (God!)
Who is the King of Kings? (God!)
What word means… “perfect and good, and most important?” (holy)
What word means… “lives forever?” (eternal)
What word means… “Will never die?” (immortal)
What word means… “you can’t see him?” (invisible)

Good! Wow! You’re really learning a lot! Later tonight, when we do music, we’re going to
learn a song with all those big words, so it’s a good thing you know what they mean!

Also tonight, you’re going to do a few crafts, play some crazy games, and have snacks,
and everywhere you go you’ll see the color gold, to remind you of the best part of this
story: God is our great king!
