ANSWER 1

It won’t be unjust to conclude that, Vinay exhibits a very low level of emotional intelligence. His
behaviour can be further accessed on the following parameters:

Self-awareness is knowing yourself better, being aware of the strengths, weaknesses, values and
goals. Atleast on this front Vinay was quite clear, he aims at living an independent and satisfied life.
At his work place, his intelligence and abilities endure to the managing director.

Self-management is controlling and redirecting one’s impulses and moods. Vinay stringently lack on
this one. To support the argument, there were two situations in the case. First when Bimal flattered
him about his pay hike, he straight away went to the MD. Second, when Bimal was suggesting him to
behave appropriately, Vinay lost his calm and got physical with him.

Social awareness relates to being aware of your environment, what's around you, as well as being
able to accurately interpret the emotions of people with whom you interact. Vinay starts discussing
hi plans for the independent firm with everyone in the organisation, even with those, with whom he
didn’t have a proper emotional connect.

Social skills is managing the relationships with people around you and move them in desired
directions. Vinay didn’t had good relations with his colleagues. The reason being he was an introvert
and often gets over sensitive about petty things.

ANSWER 2

In order to improve Vinay’s emotional intelligence, following steps can be undertaken:-

 By his wife and family,

Should try to indulge in open ended discussions and creating an atmosphere where one could freely
pour their heart out.

Help Vinay get over with loneliness, the loneliness of being separated from his parents and not
giving the kind of life to his family, that he aspires to provide.

 By his colleagues and office staff,

Taking help and guidance of professional counsellors or psychologists can be arranged within the
organisation, in order to help employees deal with their personal and work life related issues in a
better way.

Establishing “competency models” in the organisation that will help in identifying, training, and
promoting the prospective leaders for tomorrow.
