Abstract

A new peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction approach for MIMO-OFDM/A is developed
based on the well known constant modulus algorithm (CMA). This combines two ideas: 1) time domain
signals from “resource blocks” (consisting of several subcarriers) may be linearly combined using pre-
coding weights, transparent to the receiver; 2) the pre-coding weights can be designed to minimize the
modulus variations of the resulting signal, leading generally to a reduction in PAPR. This technique
is compatible with various beam forming modes in single antenna and MIMO systems. Simulation results
show a noticeable improvement relative to the Partial Transmit Sequences (PTS) technique with
significantly less complexity. MIMO OFDM has gained importance with the increase in demand of high
speed data communication .MIMO OFDM also qualifies 4G standard due to high bandwidth frequency.
Despite of many merits MIMO OFDM suffers from high peak to average power ratio problem. This paper
proposes a new technique based on continuous modulus algorithm to eliminate the problem of inter-carrier
interference (ICI), high out-of-band radiation, and degradation of bit error rate performance. Proposed
algorithms are simulated in matlab and parameters like bandwidth requirement and error is calculated.
These parameters are compared with contemporary techniques to validate the proposed algorithm.
