Chapter 2

Method

This chapter will be focusing on the research design, the research subjects, the research
instruments, the data gathering procedure that will be used in conducting the study and the statistical
instrument of the data that will be gathered.

Research Design

The descriptive correlation method will be employed in the conduct of the study. According to
Politt and Hungler (1999), descriptive research describes what exists and may help to uncover new facts
and meaning. Its purpose is to observe, describe and document aspects of a situation as it naturally
occurs.

Research Subjects

The study will be focusing on First Year Education students of the University of Mindanao. The
total number of respondents will be determined through the list of First Year Education students
enrolled, which will be obtained by the researchers by the Admission Office at University of Mindanao,
Bolton, Davao City.

The researchers will be using stratified random sampling in this research study.

Research Instruments

The study will be using test questionnaires in gathering data for the study. For this purpose a
group of experts will validate the data that will be gathered to establish the index of reliability.

Data Gathering Procedure

In gathering the data, the researchers will write a letter to the Dean of College of Teacher
Education requesting for the approval of the conduct of the study in the said college. After securing the
necessary approval, the researchers will personally meet the professors of the respondents and request
them to allow the researchers to distribute copies of the questionnaires to the target respondents. The
researchers will assist the respondents in answering the questionnaires. Retrieval will be done on the
same day of the administration of the questionnaire to ascertain high percentage of retrieval. After
retrieving all the administered questionnaires, the responses will be organized and processed for the
appropriate statistical treatment.

Statistical Treatment of Data

For the purpose of analysis and interpretation, the responses to the terms on the questionnaire
will be tallied and recorded accordingly and appropriate assessment tools will be used.
