CONTRUCTION OF ROAD USING PLASTIC WASTAGE

ABSTRACT

The abundance of plastic waste dumped in the environment and its harmful effects call for an
urgent action. In response, many countries have actively taken up the responsibility of
recycling as much plastic as possible. There are different ways of utilising the recycled
plastic, one of them is to utilise it for the construction of roads. Plastic roads are roads made
either entirely of plastic or of composite of plastic with other materials. The implementation
of plastics in roads also opens a new option for recycling post consumer plastics.

However, for well over a decade which has seen the transformation of the MDGs in to
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the country is still grappling with the proper
disposal and management of its Municipal solid Waste (MSW), especially plastic waste.
Depending on the quality of the plastic, it may take anywhere from a few days to several
years to break down in landfills, but it never breaks down completely into particles that can
be used in nature.
