5th grade Atlas to Success

Dear Parents and Students

Please read the entire document, sign, and return by Friday.
Believing that God has placed each child in my class this year, I consider myself honored to have
the opportunity to teach your child this year. Believing that classroom management is key to a
successful academic year, the following will be our Atlas to Success.
❖ I will honor and glorify God in all I do.
❖ I will be calm and quiet at all times so I don’t disturb the teacher or other students.
❖ I will show respect to myself, other students, and those in authority.
❖ I will keep my area clean and pick up after myself.
❖ I will do my best.
Failure to abide by the Atlas to Success will result in the following consequences:
❖ Level 1: Students will be informed of what they have done to get off track. They will be
asked at once to comply. Failure to comply will result in Level 2.
❖ Level 2: If a student is noncompliant, they will lose a privilege (i.e. loss of recess, going to
the Library during Study Hall). Parents will be notified via RenWeb.
❖ Level 3: If the loss of privilege does not correct the behavior, the child will be assigned a
passage to read and write a response essay, in addition to losing recess, a special class,
and/or Study Hall. Parents will be notified via email/RenWeb.
❖ Level 4: In the instance of a severe infraction, the student will be immediately sent to the
administration, and parent communication via email/RenWeb or called.
My plan is to use redirection and positive reinforcement as often as possible. We will be
participating in two programs: 1) a class-wide point system working toward a special event and
2) an individual behavior buck system to receive rewards such as a buying out of lunch duty and
homework passes.
Positive behavior could earn:
❖ A behavior buck (worth 1 or 5 dollars)
❖ Special privileges
❖ Special class-wide rewards
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn
from it.” Here at MVCS, we believe that it is our mandate to mold victorious
Christian students, giving them the tools they need to be productive
members of our community, and effective followers of Jesus Christ.

Grading policy
Late work
Students are expected to turn in completed assignments at the time I ask for them. Students will
be able to turn in late work up to a week after it was due to a penalty. Late work will not be
accepted in the Fourth Quarter.
For large assignment (reports, projects, assignment that have a week or more between date
assigned and date due), I will accept late work with the penalty of one letter grade per day up to
the three days after the original due date.
Even if an assignment is not completed on-time, I encourage students to turn in what they have
completed. Students can always go back and correct assignments after they have been graded.
No Name
Students are expected to take pride in their work, which includes writing their name on their
assignment. Assignments with no names will be counted late.
Tests
Tests are to be taken without talking. Talking may lead to tests being taken away and no chance
to make up.
Corrections
Students are allowed to make corrections on assignments/test that received an 85% or lower.
Class Assignment and Homework can be corrected to receive all missing points back. Tests may
be corrected to receive half points back. (If a student missed 10 points on a test, they can only get
back 5.) Students can make corrections up to 2 weeks after the assignment is handed back.
Test Retakes
Students are able to retake tests. They must fill out a “Request to Retest” form (found in the
classroom, or RenWeb). If a student is abusing the system (i.e. asking to retake every Bible
Memory Verse test), the student will lose the privilege of retaking that specific test for the
remainder of the quarter.
Absent work
Students are responsible for obtaining, completing, and turning in missed work on their own
time. Any work that was assigned before their absence will be due upon their return. Due dates
for work assigned during the absence will be determined by the teacher. If there is a prolonged
absence, I can email assignments and class notes so the child does not fall far behind. Allowances
will be made on a case by case basis.

Websites
RenWeb
Grades are regularly posted on RenWeb. Grades that are inputted as lower than a 70%,
M(missing), or I(incomplete) will be automatically emailed to parents. RenWeb grades are
updated regularly.
Homework assignments for the upcoming week are posted every weekend. Changes may be
made to the homework assignments throughout the week, so check your child’s planner nightly
for any changes that might have occurred.
Class documents (Spelling lists, project rubrics, links to project example)s can be found in the
resource section on the class page. Project due dates and test dates can be found in the calendar
section.
Exploring5thgrade.com
The class website is designed to give resources to students. Quizlet sets, project resources, class
documents, and research guidelines are posted here to help the students succeed. The website is
also used for in-class assignments and computer based assignment drop boxes. (Computer based
assignments will mostly be done in class to accommodate those who do not have
computer/internet at home.)

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

In His Arms,
Ms. Mouttet
