Street Play - Okhli

Theme: Problem of Youths pursuing career they are not interested in + society’s role in it

Theme Elaboration:
Youths pursuing wrong career line => 2 basic reasons =>
1.) Very less opportunities to go in that direction due to some or other reasons (for
example we can include Nepotism in Bollywood and Politics)
2.) If opportunities are available then society’s ill perspective towards those career lines
become hindrance in path. According to society painting, dancing, music etc. have
no career. As we grow up, our interests, creativity and thinking are suppressed and
we are forced to think, work and adopt according to the society. Coming upto service
life, we have been completely changed according to how society wants us to be.

Rough Plot:

Scene 1:
At some point in service life a young man(let's say A) realises that he is actually in the
wrong profession. He should have been in * line … what is he doing in # line… He goes into
deep depression.
A comical “third person” time traveller kind of character (let’s say B) happens to listen the
young man while passing by.
B then wonders how such a sensible person(A) would have landed in a profession he
doesn’t like at all. He then goes into the past to see what actually had happened with him.

Scene 2:
Then the scene starts with the birth of A and his parents thinking of big big dreams that our
son will become this… our son will become that…
Then a series of various scenes follows showing suppression of A’s thinking and dreams by
society and his parents which ultimately follows a scene of OKHLI (a human structure) in
which A is the Musal, and different members of society come and turn the Musal (A) in Okhli
taunting A in various manners indicating the irony of the situation.
Scene dissolves with a touching question by A from audiences that “Is his value in society is
just like musal in Okhli…?”

Scene 3:
(Comical starting)
Two Doctors (Ramesh and Suresh) observe a new Virus in human beings.
(later scene starts growing intense…)
Later in the scene, it is shown that how these viruses(depicting society) destroys Immunity
System human structure (depicting our thoughts, creativity, freedom).

Scene 4:
Then a third person - Narrator (let’s say N) comes and tells that only suppression by society
is not the only cause of this problem, rather less availability of opportunities in our desired
direction also leads in choosing the wrong career line.
(After it a comical scene on Nepotism in Bollywood and Politics can be prepared)

Scene 5:
Scene again returns towards A, then converging towards an ending. (still to be prepared...)
