COLT ~ 1911 U.S. ARMY .45 AUTOMATIC

1924 TRANSITION MODEL...NICE SHAPE!...C&R
NO RESERVE!! Here is what's known to 1911 collectors as a "1924 Transition Model". It is the very
first of the improved version of the 1911, eventually named the 1911A1. This pistol had the new
refinements found on the 1911A1 such as the arched mainspring housing, short trigger, trigger finger
relief cuts on the frame, long grip safety spur, etc...but the new name "1911A1" had not yet been
adopted so, in spite of the modifications, the gun was still marked "1911". These were all produced in
early to mid-1924 as a single contract of just 10,000 pistols. Still flush with 1911's from the First
World War, the United States military did not purchase any additional Colt .45 pistols after the 1924
contract until the eve of WWII in 1937.

and butt, and some very slight holster wear at the front of the slide. The frame has the correct WTG
inspector's monogram on the left side, the "G" & "H" near the disconnector hole, and is marked
"UNITED STATES PROPERTY" above the serial number on the right. The rear of the unnumbered slide
is marked with Frank Hosmer's "H" without serifs and the front sight is secured with a round
tenon...both things that indicate this is a late WWI slide, not a newly made 1924 transition slide
(although is looks correct upon casual inspection). The barrel is an early production Colt barrel with
the non-serifed "H" stamped vertically on the rear of the barrel hood (this type barrel was in use in
1912-1913 between serial number 6500-20,000). The thumb safety appears to have a dark
Parkerized finish and is likely of WWII vintage. The pistol wears a set of correct pre-war full
checkered grips with the prerequisite 28-rows of checkering between grip screws. The grips are in
very good condition with a few marks, but no cracks. The pistol is in excellent mechanical condition
and operates perfectly. The bore is excellent with bright, sharp rifling and showing just a trace of
light frost in the throat. One very good condition WWI two-tone contract magazine is included.
According to factory records, this pistol was shipped on March 10, 1924 to the Commanding Officer,
Springfield Armory. A very nice looking pistol!!

Buyer pays $39.00 shipping.
