MRI SCAN OF CERVICAL SPINE
SEQUENCES: T1, T2, STIR – Sagittal; T1, T2, GRE – Axial; T2 Coronal sequences in 1.5T MRI
scanner.
FINDINGS:
The curvature of cervical spine is normal. The cervical vertebrae are normal in height, alignment
and signal intensity. Small anterior and posterior osteophytes are seen at C5, C6 and C7 levels.

The pedicles, laminae, transverse processes, spinous processes and facet joints are normal.

The status of the intervertebral discs and the canal space measurements at various levels are as
follows:

Level AP Lateral Comments

C2-C3 1.35cm 2.26cm Disc desiccation.
C3-C4 1.40 cm 2.00cm Disc desiccation.
C4-C5 1.10cm 1.96cm Disc desiccation and diffuse posterior disc bulge with
thecal sac indentation.
C5-C6 1.10cm 1.96cm Disc desiccation and diffuse posterior disc bulge with
thecal sac indentation.
C6-C7 1.10 cm 1.94 cm Disc desiccation and diffuse posterior disc bulge with
thecal sac indentation.

The cervical spinal cord shows normal signal intensity. No focal lesions seen. Skin and
subcutaneous tissues, paravertebral soft tissues and muscles of the back and neck are normal in
signal.

Whole spine screening: The thoracic vertebrae are normal in height and signal intensity. The
intervertebral discs in the thoracic region are normal. The lumbar vertebrae are normal in height
and signal intensity. There is desiccation of all the intervertebral discs of the lumbar region. The
spinal cord is ending at the upper border of L1, shows normal signal intensity in the scanned
portions. The cauda equina and thecal sac are normal in signal.

IMPRESSION:
Cervical spondylosis with desiccation and posterior bulge of C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7
intervertebral discs causing thecal sac indentation; Lumbar spondylosis.
