Processes for using the Print Manager in Falconview:

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are at least two problems that have arisen using the Printer
Manager. One is the file size limitation within the printer and the other is that FV uses Arc
Equal Area projection when printing maps through the Print Manager. The former may
require that one put several print charts together to reduce plot file sizes. This lead to the
discovery that FV will distort the image on large charts that have a long latitudinal dimension
prohibiting matches between sheets. (The Equal Arc Projection problem) It is most prevalent
when separate chart layouts are used instead of one. See graphic.

The due to file size, the best performance has come when using the Printer Manager to
produce charts that have a long axis north to south as in the example on the right. This will
keep PM using the same latitudes for the projections.

Print Manager:
Printing charts using Print Manager will facilitate a consistent map background. The default
directory is the /pfps/data/chart/ directory for chart saves.

Bring up Print Manager under the Tools Menu. Click on the red “window pane” box. Move
on the viewer to one of the corners of the area you wish to print, click and drag to the
opposite diagonal corner. A white dashed line will appear where you drew the box, as the
area of interest. Another red box will appear that shows the entire map area on the printed
plot. This may be manipulated as follows:

Interest Box:
1. A left button click on the white and scrolling the cursor around the box will
allow for the movement and resizing of the box.
2. A right click on the edge of the white box gives a several options. Scroll to Area
Chart Properties. Insure that the parameters meet your needs, for example. Let’s say
that you want a 1:250k base at twice the scale, or more data crammed into the area.
 Categories- Raster
 Scale-CADRG 1:250 K (JOG)
 Scale Factor-50%
 Set Effective Scale should read 1:500,000
 Labeling within FV has a minimum level of LIMITED DISTRIBUTION for
the map data. Higher if needed. This is due to several factors including
licensing of the software, map data and other source restrictions.

The Print box:

Go to File>Page setup. Insure that you have set the printer, paper size, portrait or
landscape, etc. Once out of Page Setup, FV will rework the print area on the display
viewer.

Print:
Go to File>Print preview Page Layout. Make certain that the image looks like what
you want on the final print.
4. Print. It may take up to two hours depending on how many plots are to be made.
Check the plotter.
