READING COMPREHENSION

Part one A

Read the text about Alice and do the exercises that follow.
Meet Alice. She is eleven. She has got long brown hair and brown eyes. Her ears are
small and her cheeks are chubby.
She gets up at 7 o'clock in the morning, has a shower, gets dressed and has breakfast.
She usually has a toast and some tea. She doesn’t like cheese. Then the girl goes to
school by bus. She has lunch at school with her friends. They sometimes have pizza and
milkshake. After the lessons they play in the park and they like flying kites. Alice goes
home at 5pm. She has dinner with her mother and father. Her mother likes cooking!
Alice usually goes to bed at 10pm.
She lives in the city. There is a swimming pool next to her house but her school is far
away. There are many shops and supermarkets on her street. There is a cafe behind her
house and Alice goes there with the family at the weekend.
There is a market in front of her house. She likes buying things from the market because
she likes eating watermelons and mangoes, but she doesn’t like grapes. She likes
vegetables too.
Alice’s house is very big and her bedroom is big too. There are two windows, there is a
wardrobe in the room and there is a desk next to the window. There is a chair next to
her desk. Her room is usually a mess! If you look inside her room now, you can see her
jeans on the floor and there is one sock on the sofa and one sock on the lamp. Her
mother is very angry, but Alice doesn’t like tidying her room.
Alice likes doing athletics and playing table tennis. She thinks swimming is fun! But she
doesn’t like playing basketball. She is very short!
This summer Alice would like to go camping with her grandfather! She would not like to
help her grandmother in the garden. It's boring!

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow. Use full sentences
and follow the example. Refer to the text to check your answers when appropriate.

My name is Annie and this is what I normally do. I love walking in the
mountain. During the week I wake up early and go for a short walk on the mountain. I
usually go with my father or my brother. We like getting some fresh air before we start
our day. We live in the countryside far away from the city. We think that our country life
is wonderful because we are away from the noise and pollution of the city. We often
walk for half an hour and then return to our home. I always take the bus at about 8:30
am after our walk and arrive at school at 9:00 am. My father takes his car and goes to
work. He works at the town’s veterinary clinic. He is a vet and loves to help animals. We
have three dogs and two cats. At the weekend we wake up early and go for a hike on
the mountain. It's nice to smell the fresh air and see the wild animals. We stay there for
about three hours and bring our lunch with us. As you can see my family loves nature.
