Objectives:
● Eagles will understand how the scientific revolution impacted society by
debating the risks and rewards of embracing different ideas in a paragraph.

Bell:
● In your own words, what makes something a “revolution”? What characteristics
do you think you would see in a revolution?
A revolution is when a group is arguing for a chance to have a big change, you
can see fights, debate , and much more.

Activity 1​: Scientific Revolution


● Watch the following​ video​ on the Scientific Revolution, and answer YOUR
assigned question (NOTE: each member of the group should focus on ONE
question. If you have less than 5 people in your group, EVERYONE must answer
question 5, as well as their assigned question).
1. What did Copernicus discover? What was the traditional/church view?
He discovered the earth spins , and orbits the sun the traditional view was
that the Earth is the center of the universe and everything revolves
around it.
2. Why was Copernicus, and later Galileo, so afraid to publish their ideas?
Why do you believe they published them anyway?\
They were afraid the church would torture them and then kill them,
Copernicus published it because he was about to die.
3. Describe two major discoveries made by the scientific figures discussed
in the video We travel in elliptical orbit,discovered supernovas.
4. Newton said: ​“If I have seen farther than others, it is because I have stood
on the shoulders of giants.”​ Who were the ​giants​ Newton was referring
to? What does this have to do with scientific discoveries? The Giants
were gialel, Copernicus because the scientific discoveries build up on
eachother.
5. Based on the video, do you consider the Scientific Revolution a
“revolution”? Why or why not? Yes I consider it a revolution because
there was a group debating for something that would have been a big
theory.
