Design a Prairie Homestead

Your Task: Your family is moving to Alberta and there are a few
things you need to do before you move! You will need to write a
letter to the Alberta government explaining and justifying your
move. You will also need to create a visual of what your property
will look like.

Your convincing letter:

It must include:
 A description of where the homestead will be built
 An explanation as to why it’s the best place to build
 An explanation of the material that will be used to build
 An explanation of what towns or cities are nearby
 An explanation of the chores or responsibilities for the family
 An explanation of the food to grow or eat
 An explanation of safety measures
 Mention the year
 Mention the indigenous groups nearby
 Mention of the languages spoken in the area
 Possibly include how life will be better for the family

Your visual representation:

It must include:
 All of the possible buildings needed
 Space for animals and plants
 Labels

Work hard and good luck with your move to Alberta!
