Book in a Bag Project

Objectives:

 I can apply reading comprehension strategies and monitor my own

comprehension.
 I can identify, analyze, explain and make connections to literary elements
present in a novel.
 I can use correct writing conventions (spelling, punctuation,
capitalization, grammar, usage).
 I can write responses to literature using specific support from the text.

Directions:

1. Get a paper grocery, lunch, or gift bag. Make sure the bag will be big
enough to hold all of your project objects (see below). I can give you a
paper lunch bag. Used gift bags are also acceptable.
2. Decorate the outside of your bag. On the front of your bag, include your
name, the book’s title and author and a picture that illustrates the book,
On the back of your bag, write a paragraph summarizing the book. Be
sure to only include the key parts of the novel! You can neatly draw/write
everything on the bag or type and glue everything. Be creative! Make your
bag attractive to a potential reader.

3. Collect at least 5 items that symbolize a character, item or event in the

book. At least 4 of your items need to be physical objects, one item may
be a drawing or a picture. Please do NOT put food in your bag that can
go bad.
4. Write a description. For each item, state what the item is, explain what
the item symbolizes and why you chose it.
