DESCRIPTION
This is a course utilizing Microsoft Official Academic Course. By the end of this course, students should be
proficient in the following Microsoft programs: Word 2016, PowerPoint 2016 and Publisher 2016.

Students are expected to earn industry-recognized certifications in Microsoft Word 2016 and Microsoft
PowerPoint 2016. They are also expected to become proficient in Publisher 2016. Certification testing is
not yet available in Publisher 2016.

Understand desktop publishing application skills using Microsoft Publisher (SUPPLEMENTAL)
4.01 Plan, design, create, save and exit various publications.
4.02 Create professional-looking publications by modifying the text.
4.03 Create professional-looking publications with the use of graphics.
4.04 Use design and formatting elements to enhance text.
4.05 Create and edit multipage publications.

GRADING
Students will receive frequent feedback and progress reports (check school website for dates). Missed
work should be made up immediately.

receive a pro-rated grade based upon their
level of mastery. Example: Score 594.
Exam grade is 91.
 Students are encouraged to retest under
CMS policy student are allowed ONE retest.

WHY SHOULD YOU WANT TO OBTAIN MICROSOFT OFFICE CERTIFICATION?


Certification will document your knowledge of the software.

Microsoft is a recognized industry leader.

It will give you the cutting edge against job or college applicants who do not have certification.

You may receive college credit (depends on the college).

Students who pass both certifications (Word and PowerPoint) can for go state final through the in lieu of

process. Students will receive a 100 for a state exam grade.

Take exams now while it is free to you. After graduation, the cost will be $96* per exam.

POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS


1. Attendance is critical. According to CMS policies, 10 absences will result in a failure of the class. It is the student’s
responsibility to obtain any makeup work. All makeup work must be completed before or after school in the
computer lab or at home. If the assignment or test missed is not made up, a grade of “0” will be given.

2. Equipment — The student is responsible for textbooks, computer equipment, and any other material
used in this classroom. NO FOOD (including candy), DRINK or any other substance that will damage
equipment is allowed in the computer lab. Students may be held financially responsible for any missing
or damaged equipment. Cell phones will not be allowed to be charged on computers or outlets in the
classroom.

3. Listen and follow instructions. When the instructor is talking, the student needs to listen. It is physically
impossible to talk and listen at the same time. The student must complete assigned work as instructed
and follow all classroom policies. The student must not interfere with the learning process of others.

4. Unexcused tardies are NOT acceptable. Tardy policy is posted on the Independence website.

5. Participation is essential. The student is expected to be on task and to participate in the classroom
activities. If the student does not participate, they can expect to receive a “0” for the activity grade. It
is through these activities that the student will gain mastery of this course.

6. Internet usage. The streaming of audio and or video, playing games on the computer (unless permission
has been given by the teacher), the use of chat rooms, email, or using the Internet for non-educational
purposes is prohibited. It is against school policy to download and install ANY software not currently
installed on your computer. Computers will be monitored at all times. If the student violates this rule,
they will be referred to the appropriate administrator for disciplinary action, and computer privileges will
be revoked. Consider this your warning. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE RESPECTFUL AND RESPONSIBLE
AND TO ABIDE BY ALL SCHOOL RULES.

7. Bathroom Policy – In the case of an emergency, students will be allowed to use the bathroom. Students
are NOT allowed to use the bathroom the first 15 and last 15 minutes of class.

8. Fire Drill/Evacuation Policy – When evacuating the building students are to stay close to the teacher. I
will take attendance once we have exited the building. Anyone that cannot be easily found will be
written up for skipping.

9. Tutoring – Every Thursday after school from 2:30 – 3:30 unless noted by teacher.
