I. INTRODUCTION

The very essence of any business is to cater needs of customer by

providing services and goods, and in process create value for customers and solve
their problems. Production and operations management talks about applying
business organization and management concepts in creation of goods and
services.

We all knew that Production / Operations Management is the process which

transforms the inputs/resources of an organization into final goods (or services)
through a set of defined, controlled and repeatable policies. It is a scientific process
which involves transformation of raw material (input) into desired product or service
(output) by adding economic value.

By policies, we refer to the rules that add value to the final output. The value
added can be in different dimensions, but the industrial set-up is mostly concerned
with the duo of quality and throughput.

Since production is a technical-managerial activity, the production manager

should have both the technical and managerial qualifications and skills. That is
why, generally, technical personnel with managerial skills, are appointed as
production managers.

II. BODY OF THE SYNTHESIS

Production Management connotes the administration of the range of

activities belonging to the creation of products. It refers to the part of management
concerned with the production and delivery of goods and services. On the other
hand, operations management is a step ahead of production management, or it
can be said that the production management is a part of the operations
management. Operations Management, as the name suggests is the
administration of business operations, by the managers of the organization.

Last July 28, 2019 at exactly 9am at NAC 203 Liceo University we had a
symposium about Production and Operation Management. In that symposium, we
had been two speakers invited namely Ms. Angeli Neri who is working under a
Food Industry and so with Mrs. Gallardo who’s working also at Manufacturing
Industry. As we all knew that Manufacturing is the making of goods by hand or by
machine that upon completion the business sells to a customer. Items used
in manufacture may be raw materials or component parts of a larger product.
The manufacturing usually happens on a large-scale production line of machinery
and skilled labor while the he role of the food industry. The food industry is highly
diverse and comprises several important components. Each component adds
distinct value to the whole food chain by improving sustainability and producing
better products. Regulation on food production and distribution to ensure quality
and safety. The role of the manufacturing food industry in relation to provision
of foods for the weanling encompasses 4 main objectives viz. customer
satisfaction, safety, providing product information and the maintenance of
commercial viability.

From that symposium, the speakers discuss about some of the operational
issues include the management of inventory levels, including work-in-process
levels and raw materials acquisition, quality control, materials handling, and
maintenance policies. Operations management entails studying the use of raw
materials and ensuring minimal waste occurs. Production managers ensure
that manufacturing processes run reliably and efficiently. Responsibilities of the
job include: planning and organizing production schedules estimating, negotiating
and agreeing budgets and timescales with clients and managers.
Problem A (On the Symposium Topics)
The speakers must discuss the topics in a Clear and concise communication
with the group is extremely important. I have cited some of the common errors of
the speakers.

1.) USING SMALL SCALE MOVEMENTS AND GESTURES.

2.) SPEAKING WITH LOW ENERGY.
3.) NOT PREPARING ENOUGH.
4.) NOT PRACTICING ENOUGH.
5.) DATA CENTRIC PRESENTATIONS.

Problem B (On the Symposium Activity)

Some complications that needs to be corrected during the symposium.

Audience/Attendees
 some of the students are not listening properly
 some going in and out of the classroom
 distractive noise from mobile phones
 coming in school late
 interruptions while on discussion

III. RECOMMENDATION

Problem B (During the activity)

 Speakers/ Presenters
 Speakers must present in a clear loud voice
 Avoid mannerisms
 Prepare all the discussion materials
 Must have a practice discussion

 Audience/Attendees

 Listen Attentively
 Turn off / silent mood mobile phones
 Let the speaker finish discussing before interrupting
 Avoid coming in and out in the classroom

IV. CONCLUSION

I therefore conclude that Operations management focuses on carefully

managing the processes to produce and distribute products and services. Major,
overall activities often include product creation, development, production and
distribution. (These activities are also associated with Product and Service
Management.) Related activities include managing purchases, inventory control,
quality control, storage, logistics and evaluations of processes. A great deal of
focus is on efficiency and effectiveness of processes. Therefore, operations
management often includes substantial measurement and analysis of internal
processes. Ultimately, the nature of how operations management is carried out in
an organization depends very much on the nature of the products or services in
the organization, for example, on retail, manufacturing or wholesale.

V. LEARNING INSIGHTS

From that symposium, I have learned a lot of things about how to properly
handle myself properly, good manners and etiquette in the business setting. The
symposium had a great impact on me as a student and as an employee. I have
gain ideas/Knowledge on how to proper handle a Production and Operation
Management and at the same time ideas on what’s going to happen in the
business world nowadays.
