    An arch in the shape of upper half of an ellipse is used to support a bridge

    that is to span a river 30m wide. The center of the arch is 8m above the
    center of the river. Write an equation for the ellipse if the x-axis concides
    with the water level and the y-axis passes through the center of the arch.

    The Elliptical’s Play Station is in the shape of half an ellipse and


    is 24m wide and 8m high. A person standing at one focus rolled
    the ball to the other focus of the play station. How apart is the
    person to the ball? Find the location of the thrown ball.

    The cargo truck is about to pass through the one-way tunnel in the
    form of a semi-ellipse, which is 14m across and 5m high in the
    middle. If the truck has the width of 5m and a height of 4m, will it
    be able to pass through the tunnel?
