Age/ level: 13-14/ elementary
Objective: SBWAT design a fashion show and describe what participants are wearing, using
vocabulary about clothing and seasons.
Active learning: Students will plan a show and explain events at the present moment, using
vocabulary about clothes and seasons.
Directions:
1st: Warm up
Groups of 2 students will receive a map with the weather in some cities abroad. They will
pretend they are going to travel and ask each other advices about the clothes they should take.
(2 minutes)
2nd: Task
Tiered activity 1: Groups of 3/ 4 students will prepare a fashion show. Each group will receive a
card with a specific season/ weather. They will have to decide who is going to be the stilist, the
model(s) and the presenter. (2 minutes)
Tiered activity 2: Some students will be the bloggers who are going to watch the show,
interview the participants and report in their blogs and magazines. They will receive a sheet with
an evaluation chart and also they will have to choose the best performance.
The activity is student-centered because requires interaction since the students have to discuss
about the clothes they will wear, about how the outfits can match with the weather and how they
will present the show. Also there will be interaction between the bloggers and the groups that
will perform the show during the interviews. There will be communication on a level of meaning,
because they have to ask, answer and report in a context they already know about, since they
use to choose their own clothes according to the weather. Decision making is also expected: the
students will choose the clothes; they will decide about the language they will use in the
presentation and in the summary; the bloggers have to choose the best presentation. This
activity has a clear goal: making the students connect the vocabulary they learned (clothes and
weather) and use the grammar structure they already have (present tense).
Required resources: cards, sheets with the weather chart and evaluation by the bloggers, bag
with clothes and accessories.
