1) If the inequality has a < or > then your graph will have a ____________ line.
If the inequality has a ≤ or ≥ then your graph will have a ___________ line.
2) Which of the following is a graph of system of linear inequalities in two
variables?
a. M
3) Solve the system of inequality graphically. Find three points that satisfy both
inequalities. Plot the points to show that they belong to the solution of the
system. 5x + y > 3 y≤x–4
4) Solve the following system of linear inequalities by graphing. x
+y>4 x–y<2
5) Write the system of linear inequalities that defines the shaded region:
a. −𝑥 + 𝑦 > 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥 + 𝑦 >
0
b. −𝑦 > 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥 > 0
c. −𝑥 > 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦 > 0
d. 𝑛𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑣𝑒
B. Summary:
1) The Graph of Inequality in two Variables is the set of points that represents
all solutions to the inequality. A Linear Inequality divides the coordinate
plane into two halves by a boundary line where one half represents the
solutions of the inequality. The boundary line is dashed for > and < and
solid for ≤ and ≥.
2) A system of Linear Inequalities in two variables consists of at least two
Linear Inequalities in the same variables. The solution of Linear Inequality
is the ordered pair that is a solution to all inequalities in the system and the
graph of the linear inequality is the graph of all solutions of the system.
3) The solution of a Linear Inequality in Variables like 𝐴𝑥 + 𝐵𝑦 > 𝐶 is an
ordered pair (𝑥, 𝑦) that produces a true statement when the values of 𝑥
and 𝑦 are substituted into the inequality.
4) Systems of Equations are classified as independent with one solution,
dependent with an infinite number of solutions, or inconsistent with no
solution.
