The Effects of Cyberbullying on selected

Senior High School Students

Background of the study

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cellphones,
computers, and tablets. It can occur through SMS, Text, and Apps or online in
social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or
share contents. Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing
negative, harmful, false or mean content about someone else. Sharing
private information about someone causing embarrassment or humiliation.
Some cyberbullying crossese line into unlawful or criminal behavior.

Kids have been bullying each other for generations. The latest generation,
however, has been able to utilize technology to expand their reach and the
extent of their harm. This phenomenon is being called cyberbullying, defined
as: " willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers,
cellphone, and othe electronic devices". Basically, we are referring to
incidents where teenagers use technology to harass, threaten, humiliate, or
otherwise hassle their peers.

With the prevelance of social media and digital forums, comments, photos,
posts and content shared by individuals can often be viewed by strangers as
well as acquaintaces. The content an individual shares online - both their
personal content as well as negative, mean, or hurtful content - creates a
kind of permanent public record of their views, activities, and behavior.
Cyberbullying can harm the online reputations of everyone involved - not just
the person being bullied, but those doing bullying or participating in it.

Cyberbullying occurs across a variety of venues and mediums in cyberspace,

and it shouldn't come as a surprise that it occurs most often where
teenagers congregate. Initially, many kids hang out in chatrooms, and as a
result that is where most harassments took place. In recent years, most
youth are have been drawn to social mefia ( such as Instagram, Snapchat,
and Twitter) and video- sharing sites ( such as Youtube). This trend has led to
increased reports of cyberbullying occuring in those environments.

Cyberbullying is not solitaire in its ability to bring about negative implications

from online interactions. Offensive discourse may include, but is not limited
to, coarse language, hate speech, and sexually derogatory commenta.
Offensive discourse on the Internet has the possibility to become viral and
dangerous among youth culture. There are over forty plus internet text
acronyms used to communicate and create dialogue among the youth; a
language that in and of itself, may supersede the knowledge of their
authoritiative figures.

After discovering this social phenomenon, We accepted the responsibility as

a researchers to advocate and investigate. Most important, We accepted the
responsibility to write a reseach/ thesis that tackles about the Effects of
cyberbullying on a selected Senior High School Students.
