COURSE OBJECTIVES:
I. To enable the students to understand and internalize the importance of ethical behaviour in
personal and professional lives.
II. To ensure that the students learn / understand the rights and responsibilities as an employee
and citizen.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

 Students would internalize ethical behaviour in personal and professional lives.


 Students become responsible employees and citizens.

UNIT-I INTRODDUCTION TO ETHICS


Basic Concepts-Personal and Professional Ethics; Life skills, Emotional intelligence, Value
Education, Professional and Professionalism.

UNIT-II ETHICAL THEORIES


Theory of moral development, Utilitarianism, Virtue theory, Moral Rationalism, Moral
pluralism, Moral autonomy, Moral dilemmas.

UNIT-III PROFESSIONAL ETHICS


Norms of Conduct- Moral values in profession, Code of Conduct- Ethical Responsibilities of
Engineers – Discrimination , Whistle blowing.

UNIT-IV RIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Professional right – Professional responsibilities – Ethics in changing domains of Research –
Organizational complaint procedure – Ethics in research – Research misconduct distinguished from
mistakes, Responsible authorship, reviewership.

UNIT-V GLOBAL ISSUES IN PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

Globalization and MNCs, International Trade, Business Ethics, Sustainable Development,


Energy Concerns, Marketing and Manufacturing Ethics, Media Ethics, Bio-Ethics.
