Programmes for upliftment and empowerment of women

Women empowerment is a process in which women are treated equally with men in all the
aspects of the society. In Vedic period women were given equal participation, we have
examples like Stridhan and poets like Upala, Ghosh and Lopa Mudra. In India women were
worshiped as goddess in the society but now a days the situation got more pitiable. Women are
facing many atrocities even in the society of 21st century. In the present scenario also women
are not safe there are many cases related to dowry death, domestic violence, sexual harassment
of women at workplace. So government is trying to protect and make welfare schemes for the
upliftment of women. There are many schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Pdhao ,Sukanya
Samriddhi account , Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Nirbhaya scheme and so on. Thus it is
the very high time for India to think and analyse over a very critical situation that why women
are being harassed and they are shown inferior in the society, where both men and women are
living together in spite of knowing the fact that both are complementary to each other and
without any one of them will definitely lead to the destruction of the existing society. Women
empowerment refers to an environment for women where they can make their own decisions
for their benefits as well as for the society. This paper aims to study that whether government‘s
schemes are really helpful for upliftment and empowerment of women and what are the laws
related to protect and empower women.
