Earthquake - Causes and Consequences :

• In the plate boundary, due to pressure, lots of

energy form. When that energy is released, it
creates tremor called as Earthquake.

• It usually occurs when convergent or transform

plate boundaries meet or move.

• The energy is released from a point below the crust

and is known as Focus.
• On the surface of the earth, where the energy can
be felt is called the Epicentre.
• The epicentre is perpendicular to the focus.
• The closer to the epicenter, the higher is the level of
intensity of the earthquake and damage. The further
we are from the epicentre, the weaker the
earthquake is felt.

• The earthquake is measured on the Richter Scale.

• They are detected and recorded by an instrument

known as Seismometer.

Consequences :

• Causes damage and destruction

• Deaths

• Loss of properties

• Landslides

• Tsunamis under water
