DIVISION 4

MASONRY

1. GENERAL

1.1 Construction shall conform to all requirements of the National Building Code of the
Philippines and the rules and regulations enforced in the locality. Any defective
material should be replaced or improved by Contractor without additional cost to
Owner.

1.2 Quality Assurance - Where indicated, provide materials and


construction which are identical to those of assemblies, equivalent thickness, whose
fire endurance has been determined by testing in compliance with ASTM E 119 by
means acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

2. PRODUCT

2.1 Concrete Masonry Units


2.1.1 All concrete masonry units shall be manufactured by . Use
2.1.2 Aggregates: ASTM C33
2.1.3 Linear Drying Shrinkage: Not to exceed 0.065 percent when tested in
accordance with ASTM 426.
2.1.4 In addition to the requirements specified, concrete masonry units of the
various kinds shall conform to PNS 16, Type II for 150 mm thick(f’m = 7 MPa
/ 5 MPa) and for 100 mm thick (f’m = 2.5 MPa). Include closer, jamb, lintel
and bond beam units and special shapes and sizes to complete the work as
indicated.

2.2 Materials for Mortar and Grout


2.2.1 Admixtures: May be used in mortar or grout provided that the admixture
does not adversely affect bond or compressive strength of mortar or grout.
Water to be used shall be fresh, clean and free from loose, rust, scales and
any coatings that will reduce bond.
2.2.2 Aggregate for Mortar: ASTM C 144, except that not less than 3 percent nor
more than 15 percent shall pass the No. 100 sieve.
2.2.3 Aggregate for Grout: Fine Aggregate: ASTM C 404, Size No. 2 or ASTM C 144.
Pea Gravel: ASTM C 404, except that 100 percent shall pass the 9 mm screen
and not more than 5 percent shall pass the No. 8 sieve. Coarse Aggregate:
ASTM C 404, size No. 8.
2.2.4 Portland Cement: Type I, conforming to ASTM C150.
2.2.5 Lime Putty: Slaked according to manufacturer's instructions.
a. Hydrated Lime: Shall conform with ASTM C-207.
b. Quicklime: shall conform with ASTM C-5 Specifications. Quicklime shall
be slaked and then screened through a 16-mesh sieve.

2.3 Mortar Mixture


2.3.1 Mortar shall be freshly prepared and uniformly mixed in the proportion of 1-
part Portland Cement, ¼ part maximum lime putty of hydrated lime, loose
sand not less than 1 ½ and not more than 3 times the sum of the volume of
cement and lime used and shall conform to ASTM C-270.

2.4 Grout Mixtures


2.4.1 Grout for pouring shall be of fluid consistency and mixed in the proportion
by volume: 1 part Portland Cement, 2 ½ part minimum to 3 parts maximum
damp loose sand where the grout space is less than 7.5 cm in its least
dimension.
2.4.2 Grout for pumping shall be of fluid consistency and shall have not less than
7 bags of cement in each cubic meter of grout. The mix design shall be
approved by the supervising Engineer.

2.5 Reinforcing Steel


2.5.1.

2.1 Installation
2.2 Workmanship
2.2.1 The work throughout shall be executed in the best and most
thorough manner in accordance with NFPA standard and to the
satisfaction of the Procuring Entity, who will jointly interpret the
meaning of the drawings and specifications and shall have power
to reject ant work and materials which in their judgment are not in
full accordance therewith.
2.2.2 This Contractor shall assume unit responsibility and shall provide
the service of the qualified Engineer to supervise the complete
installation of equipment and systems and who shall be available
for conducting the final acceptance test.
2.2.3 All equipment shall be installed in accordance with NFPA standard
and in accordance with the manufacturer’s standard Certificate of
Compliance by the manufacturer’s representative shall be
submitted to the Procuring Entity.
2.3 Piping’s Installation
2.3.1 Install pipe hanger parallel to the building line or as shown on the
drawing
2.3.2 Install essentially as shown on the drawing. Modify as required to
clear the building structure and openings, lights, ducts, and other
services
2.3.3 Install valves where it can be conveniently operated from the floor.
Valve system shall be installed upright or horizontal only.
2.3.4 Provide adequate spacing between walls and other piping’s permit
servicing of valves and other devices.
2.3.5 Provide pipes sleeves for all piping’s passing through building
structures.
2.3.6 Install piping to permit natural drainage by gravity towards to
control valve.

2.4 Pipe, Hanger, and Support Installation


2.4.1 All supports shall be independent of the ceiling suspension and
other system such as duct works and other piping.
2.4.2 Sway braces shall be installed on feed mains and cross main to
avoid piping oscillations.
2.4.3 Risers shall be supported by attachment directly to the risers or by
hanger located on the horizontal connection close to the riser.
2.4.4 Hangers or Branch lines – There shall be at least 1 hanger for each
sprinkler installed on the branch lines.
2.4.5 Hangers or Cross mains – There should be at least 1 hanger
between 2 branch line.
2.4.6 Hanger for Risers – There should be at least 1 hanger for every
floor.

2.5 Painting
2.5.1 All above ground piping shall be painted with 2 coats of primer
(anti-rust) paints and one coat of red enamel finishing paint.
2.6 Cleaning and Protection
2.6.1 Before erection, remove all foreign materials from the pipes.
2.6.2 During construction, cap or otherwise protect all expose finished
pipe ends. Remove all temporary preservatives coatings from
valves and accessories.
2.7 Testing
2.7.1 Simulation Testing –of sprinkler system (including pumps) by
burning of one or more sprinkler heads shall be performed in the
presence of the Procuring Entity or its representatives.
2.8 Alarm Interconnection
2.8.1 The Contractor shall coordinate with the Alarm Contractor for the
interconnection of the Sprinkler alarm to the building fire alarm
system. Conduits and wires shall be provided by this Contractor.

DIVISION 8
MASONRY

SECTION (A) DOOR


1. GENERAL

1.1 All lumber to used is sound, live seasoned, free from large loose and unsound
knots and other imperfections tending to impair its strength and durability. They
shall be straight, full and square dimension indicated on the plan as called in the
specifications exterior sidings, which shall be all re kiln-dried.
1.2 All frames shall be done with carefully fitted mortise and tendon joints. All doors
and windows and transom or other opening were indicated on plans, shall have
frames with concrete shall be anchored with 20” D nails.
1.3 Forms shall conform to the shape, line dimension of the concrete as called for on
the plans. Lumbers in forms for exposed surfaces shall be horizontal or vertical.
For unexposed surfaces and rough works, undressed lumber may be used. Forms
shall be substantially and sufficient tight and fastened as to produced true lines.
Special care shall take to prevent bulging.

2 PRODUCT

2.1 Wood works:


2.1.1 Wood used for scaffolding:
2”x3”x12’ tanguile lumber or other acceptable lumber
as may be authorized
2.1.2 Wood used for formworks and platforms:
¼”x4’x12’ Marine Plywood
2.1.3 Wood used for nailers (ceiling frame):
2”x2”x10’ Tanguile lumber or other acceptable lumber
as may be authorized
2”x2”x14’ Tanguile lumber or other acceptable lumber
as may be authorized
2.1.4 Wood frames (jamb, mullions, headers, etc.) including transform
framed for doors, windows and other wall openings with wood
frames. All exposed woodwork shall be smoothly dressed. Number
to be used for the respective parts of the work shall be as follows:
2.1.4.1 Yacal ------ for all doors, heads and jamb in contact with
concrete
2.1.5 Nails used: Common Wire Nail (CWN)

3 EXECUTION

3.1 Install members plumb and true line and level.


3.2 Coupling and securing of woods for scaffolding, formworks, and platforms shall be
done with Common Wire Nails.
3.3 Lumber shall be S4S. Clean and Protect work from damage.
3.4 Coupling and securing of woods for joist and nailers shall be done with Common
Wire Nails. Finishes installed in ceiling (refer to DIVISION IX).
3.5 Joist and Nailers are to be coated with termiticide.
3.6 Lumber in forms once shall ride of nails and their surfaces in contact with cement
shall roughly clean wetted before they used.

SECTION (6B) ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK


1. GENERAL

1.1 Work consists of furnishing and installation of architectural woodwork i.e., all
wood trellis, wood screens, etc. as shown on the drawings and as specified herein.

2. PRODUCT

2.9 Wood trellis:


2.9.1 Structural Glued Laminated Units: All wood used in glued laminated
units must be of the same variety and origin. The wood shall be
Scandinavian Pruce T30 and T40 in accordance with DS 413. Kiln-
dried, planed and graded for required thickness; the timber shall
have maximum moisture content of 14%. Thickness of wooden
planks in glued laminated timber shall not exceed 34mm. The glue
shall be Dynosol S-199 mixed with hardener H-624 or H-628 or equal
in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. For painting
refer to Division 9 - FINISHING.
2.9.2 Fitting: Manufacturer's standard connectors, anchors and other
accessories shall be fabricated of steel conforming to ASTM A36. All
metal parts shall be hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A153. All fittings shall
be kept concealed.
2.10 Millwork: Millwork shall be constructed in strict accordance with the
dimensional and design requirements shown on the drawings, details, elevations,
and schedules. Millwork details indicate the desired type and quality of
construction and may be modified to conform to manufacturer's standards, so
long as requirements are followed and that proposed alternate constr5uction
methods have the acceptance of the Engineer. Tolerances on overall assembly
dimensions shall be within plus or minus 0.79mm.
2.10.1 Workmanship: Millwork shall be fabricated and rigidly assembled
by skilled workmen to the complete satisfaction of the Engineer.
Reinforcing as required to ensure a rigid and secure assembly shall
be provided where necessary, even if not detailed on drawings.
Exposed surfaces shall be free from dents, tool marks, warpage,
buckle, glue and open joints. All joints, corners and miters shall be
accurately fitted. Fastenings shall be concealed. Threaded
connections shall be made up tightly so that threads are entirely
concealed.
2.10.2 Fastening: Except where otherwise shown, specified or directed
the assembly and joining shall be at the Contractor’s option
provided the results are satisfactory' the manufacturer’s proven
method that will produce the required standards of workmanship
shall be used subject to the Engineer's review. Conceal all
fastenings wherever possible.
2.10.3 Veneered Surfaces: Gluing of plastic laminate surfacing materials
and of face veneers shall, where possible, be by the hot-plate
method and glued surfaces shall be in close contact throughout.
Glue stains will not be permitted. Unless otherwise shown, grain
of all wood veneer on tops shall of type as shown on the drawings
of run parallel to the longitudinal axis of the top, arrange veneer on
sides and ends with mitered edge. Veneer shall be book-matched
in sequence in such a manner so as to provide a balance parcel for
all tops. Side, back and front of furniture shall be so veneered that
all joints line up with top joints. All joints that occur where surfaces
of different planes meet shall be matched where feasible.
2.10.4 Hardware: Provide cabinet hardware and accessory materials
associated with millwork comply with ANSI A156.9 "American
National Standard for Cabinet Hardware” quality level; Type 2
(institutional). Provide hinges, catches and pulls of the types
indicated, to properly accommodate each door size and style.
Provide slides of the types specified with drawer units. Provide
pulls of the type specified for cabinet doors.
2.10.5 Locks: Where indicted, provide standard pin-type or disc-type
(5pins or discs) tumbler locks, keyed individually except as
otherwise indicated.
2.10.6 Shelf Supports: Where shelving is indicated as “adjustable”,
Provide slotted-type standards and brackets of the type needed to
properly support the shelves with uniform 195.6 kgs/sq.m.
Loading.
2.10.7 Exposed Hardware Finish: Unless otherwise indicated provide
exposed hardware with BHMA code 626 satin chromium plate
finish (US26D); where not available, provide either satin aluminum
or satin stainless-steel finish.
2.10.8 Assembly: Fit and assemble all work in the shop insofar as
practicable. Mark and disassemble units which are too large for
shipment to project site, retaining units in sizes as large as possible
for shipment and erection. Wherever units are arranged in a
battery without a top, they shall be bolted together as specified;
where tops occur, units shall be attached to the top for alignment
and need not be bolted to each other.
2.10.9 Fabricate exposed edges of casework, including edges of doors and
drawers, when open, with matching plastic laminate, except as
otherwise indicated.
2.10.10 Provide dust panels of 6 mm (1/4") thick plywood or
tempered hardboard above compartments and drawers, except
where located directly below countertops.
2.11 Cabinet works and Built-ins: 18mm particleboard for basic shelves- walk-
in closet and cabinet doors. As per interior design drawing and approved sample
of Owner/Developer.
2.12 Wood Base: Shall be solid oak wood, 100 mm high x 7 mm thickness,
treated with water-repellant, preservative and insect toxicant. Wood base shall
have oil varnish finish.
2.13 Provide wood moisture content for all wood of 10% for interior woodwork
and 9 to 13% for exterior woodwork.
2.14 Rough hardware and shall be hot dipped galvanized metal. Finish
hardware and accessories to be of good and as shown on the drawings.

3. EXECUTION

3.1 Work under this section shall be shop-fabricated and finished to the fullest
possible extent and will be subject to Engineer's inspection during manufacturing.
The work shall be fabricated and installed as per the design, details and
dimensions shown on the drawings and specified herein.
3.2 Use the most skilled workmen for installation of the products. Install finished
work as shown on the drawings, secured, plumb, level and complete with
hardware and accessories.
