a. Describe the situation (100 words)
In 2017, when there were 2 patient’s referral from Primary Health Care sent to our
hospital with a diagnosis of suspect MERS and as we know MERS is a disease that
transmits through the air and is deadly. This make confused the Hospital Health
Team, Provincial Health Office, And Port Health Office. This is the first event that
happened on our island. While on our island, personal protective equipment is
limited, and the ability and understanding regarding the mode of transmission of
infection is still low. so it needs intense communication with members who take
action.

b. What action did you take? (150 words)

we work in teams and carry out cross-sectoral coordination ranging from
transportation, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs, ways of placing patients,
sampling, sending samples and to documenting staff direct and indirect contact with
patients. The most difficult thing is to educate nurses who will take sputum samples
and patient's blood. We educate how to properly install complete personal protective
equipment and how to release and dispose of waste. And the most important thing is
how they are more obedient in doing hand washing according to the 5 moments of
hand washing.

For the transportation of samples we use cold boxes that have been given by the
health department and with the help of the port quarantine office, immediately send
samples using the aircraft to the central health lab in Jakarta for examination.

c. What was the outcome (100 words)

7 days after sending the sample, the laboratory results were negative and patients
were declared not MERS but moderate Pneumonia. With good communication, clear
procedures and quick responses from all sectors. there is no heavy conflict in the
team. so that when there are patients suspected of MERS returning. we will be better
prepared, even though the patient will be positive later. we have a motto of zero
infection zero tolerance.

5. Describe a situation when you had to work very hard to achieve what was required
a. Describe the situation (100 words)
The Manambai Hospital area of 7 acres and hospital staff of 700 people with 1 IPCN.
This is a big challenge for me as IPCN. especially in improving overall understanding
of the Infection Prevention Controlling (IPC) and compliance with employee
handwashing and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as indicated. if this
problem is not resolved this will be a patient safety problem because the possibility of
cross contact will occur. The rate of infection will increase.

b. What action did you take? (150 words)

The Infection prevention controlling (IPC) program has the task of education and
training. as IPCN, I conduct periodic In-house Training (IHT) for 700 employees.
every IHT wave there are 50 participants who are trained in basic IPC. and Pre and
Post tests are carried out regarding IPC knowledge so that this can measure the
progress of participants' understanding. And every day I go around the treatment
room to conduct employee behavior control in work must comply with IPC rules. and
every 3 months monitoring the evaluation regarding the PPI service in each treatment
room

c. What was the outcome? (100 words)

Based on the results of monitoring shows that the Hand Hygiene compliance rate in
Manambai Hospital. On January - December 2018 showed an increase in a certain
period. The number of Hand Hygiene compliance has increased in February (47.04%)
and continues to increase in March 2018 which is equal to 48.94%. even though it
hasn't reached the target. This is due to the lack of awareness of the habits of officers.
in November there was an increase of 86% and this was an annual target of> 85%.

6. What skills and knowledge do you hope to gain from your proposed study? (max. 250
words)
I am applying Master of Public Health because as an Infection and Prevention Control
Nurse (IPCN), I want to improve my knowledge and capabilities in terms of managerial,
making public health policies and methods of disease control and health promotion in my
regional population even for my country.
7. Why are the skills and knowledge you describe above important to your country’s
development? (max. 250 words)
Indonesia is one of the countries that has just realized the importance of data related to
the number of infections. The higher rate of infection and the greater of death rate. It will
cause the productivity of the community to decline, the cost of treatment will be even
greater. This is one factor that will prevent our country from advancing. We can see this
with the newly issued policy related to the IPC program in 2017. So this program still
needs time to be able to be applied to all Indonesian islands to the fullest. This is the
reason I want to improve my ability to study the IPC program. starting from data analysis
policy making and until the data can be used to change the behavior of people who are
more aware of the dangers of infection and know how to deal with it. especially on our
island, the number of Tuberculosis Pulmonary cases is the third largest in Indonesia.

8. How will you use your new knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of
your home country? (max. 250 words)
After I graduate. I will start sharing my knowledge in my former small community,
namely the hospital where I work, then to the local government and I will try to
contribute more to the country both in making national policies and sharing knowledge
and health promotion to the community. I will review the existing policies and the policy
is not only written on paper. but realized into our working lives. and conduct workshops
related to Infection and Prevention Controlling (IPC) throughout Indonesia and I will
active in scientific meetings related to IPC both nationally and internationally. I want to
see people around me healthy, healthy environment and healthy behavior. I hope island
free from Tuberculosis Pulmonary.

9. Why did you decide to apply to study in New Zealand?

New Zealand is a country located around 7550 kilometers from Indonesia. However, this
distance is not a reason for the country's harmonious commitment between Indonesia and
New Zealand. Moreover, this collaboration has been established for almost 61 years.
during that time New Zealand countries helped many Indonesian youths to improve their
quality through education and scholarships. This is what makes me enthusiastic and
believes that I have the opportunity to become Indonesian young people who are selected
to be students there.
I had read the article in 2018, when HE Dr. Trevor Matheson, Ambassador New Zealand
visited Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. He said, Indonesia-New Zealand
relations have also been established since 1958. "As two democratic countries, Indonesia
and New Zealand have strong relationship. To maintain the 60-year relationship in the
future, the relationships needed are not only between countries but also must be carried
out to the stages between individuals.
This country has international class universities. who have international competitiveness.
like the campus that I dream of is Auckland University Technology. This university has a
rating of 1.2% in worldwide and the Master of Public Health major is my choice. I am
sure I will get a lot of knowledge there and

10. If you are successful in being awarded a scholarship, what challenges do you think you
will face living and studying in a different country, and how do you intend to overcome
these? Include both study and personal challenges. (max. 250 words)
“I have to be the one awardee!”, that's the positive sentence that I put in my heart. and I
chose the Auckland area because in addition to its geographical location near the sea like
mine. my feelings will be like at home. the calm atmosphere will make me more
passionate about studying. besides that, I am sure of this choice after seeing the video on
the AUT website at the Master of Public Health about "Hear from graduates" I have seen
a woman named Ayan Said. She is a Muslim woman right. I am also a Muslim too, so I
think the environment where the level of religious tolerance is good and I can
comfortably build intimacy with the people there.
The challenge I see is adjusting to the climate there. At Indonesia there are 2 seasons but
there are 4 seasons. so I will better prepare myself by paying attention to the weather and
preparing the need for life starting from a winter jacket. And more communication with
New Zealand scholars for whatever is prepared and what I have to do when I get there.
Auckland itself has a traveler attraction, so this place can channel my hobbies
photography and notify Indonesia and even the world of the beauty of New Zealand
through photos that I share on my social account. “travelling it leaves you speechless.
Then turn you into a story letters” (Ibn Battuta).

I get 3rd rankings at Primary school, and when the Junior High School and Senior high
school I can study at favorite school in my district. During college, I was participated in
campus nursing organizations and held national level seminars. I was chosen to follow an
exchange study with 5 of my friends. And feel life and study in another country, namely
at Khon Khaen University of Thailand
