we are making operations on investigating the quality management issues in the

hospital called St paulous millenium medical college that we took internship

practice for three months.St. Paul's Hospital was built in 1969.It currently has 392
beds, with an annual average of 200,000 patients and a catchment population of
more than 5 million. Approximately 75% of the patients receive medical services
free of charge. There are over 1300 clinical and non-clinical staff in over 13
departments, most recently launching its new hemodialysis unit.
Quality management is the act of overseeing all activities and tasks that must be
accomplished to maintain a desired level of excellence. This includes the
determination of a quality policy, creating and implementing quality planning and
assurance, and quality control and quality improvement.
Hospital Management is the process where healthcare providers effectively and
efficiently administer everything from patient registration to appointment
scheduling, document management, consultation management, lab management,
drug safety, report generation, staff management, outpatient management.
Quality in health is doing the right things for the right people at the right time, and
doing them right first time and every time."
A good hospital management system allows the smooth delegation of work and
allows easy access to the information required for the task. For example, it should
allow a doctor to enter the information regarding a patient and their treatment
regime, and it should also allow the pharmacist to easily track the inventory.
Quality is seen as an important competitive advantage in many organizations.

A brief on the proposed quality management system.

Health care in Ethiopia, as in many other countries, is confronted with a

growing demand for medical treatments and services, due to factors such as,
a ‘growing’ population, and higher individual standards for quality of life.
This work is focused on the development of a quality Management
System for a hospital, St paulos millenium medical collage
There is problem in this hospital in providing to the patient with effective
medical treatement in a highly efficient time frame at reasonable cost. And
also patients suffer injuries or die.
In addition to this in hospital Many medical practices and risks associated
with health care are emerging as major challenges for patient safety and
contribute significantly to the burden of harm due to unsafe care or low
quality mangement system, such as medication errors, health care-associated
infections,unsafe surgical care procedures,unsafe injections
practices,diagnostic errors, unsafe transfusion practices.
Literature indicates that the cause of death for a large number of patients in
these hospitals is medical negligence and nosocomial infections. These
deaths can be easily avoided by incorporating quality assurance programs.

All this is due to the hospital’s Shortage of professional healthcare faculty

who have in-depth knowledge. the lack of time allowed training and learning
on making use of the HMs. Shortage of health informatics professionals who
are well capable of establishing and implementing the techniques.
So the hospital can solve that problem :
For human challenge one can improve the awareness of advantages and
benefits of making use of the HMS by a focused multi-phase approach on
any topic. The approach can be made use from the starting level of
healthcare industry schools, colleges, then with the undergraduate degree
and through various aspects of postgraduate medical education. All Medical
education programs should include the significance of HMS, their
applications and advantages.these is for the human chalenge.

For techenical chalenge the hospital should upgrading your old

communication networks and computers to a new one for the enhanced
performance. Make sure you perform every analysis required in depth before
the start of the design phase and the implementation phase. Implementing
newer innovations in both hardware and software is required to overcome
data entry difficulties.

In addition to this the hospital should create online communicating system.

This helps to the patients to share there information with the nurse, doctor,
and with other medical staff. They also emphasize educating all the medical
staff to build trust towards the patient.

· Implementation strategy
In order to be effective and be the first choice health care hospital in Ethiopia as
well as in the world for patient solution providers and to advance their services
into the Global standard and make pateints to cope up with advanced technology,
the hospital should follow these quality management systems

1) Training of Hospital Staff

New staff introduced to the hospital must be competent hospital managers.
Hospital staff should be encouraged to participate in ongoing training to enhance
their skills. Current staff should, therefore, be trained in both management and
technology (e.g. cloud image storage), with training also being offered in-house.

2) Use Innovative Technology

Automation of hospital systems can be beneficial to everybody involved. For
example, the use of DICOM or cloud image storage can reduce the number of staff
required and eventually lead to the more effective management of these areas of
the hospital.

3) from the patient to the nurse, doctor as well as head oficer of the hospital should
be acountableAccountability is Key
Staff should be accountable for their daily, weekly and monthly tasks. If every
hospital staff member adheres to this and is answerable for their assigned tasks,
including senior doctors, this produces better hospital management.

4) Establish a Managed Care System

A managed care system should already be implemented in hospitals, but its
improvement can lead to the more efficient running of daily tasks. This includes
punctuality of physicians, no delays for operations and well-managed stock for in-
demand medicines.

5) Develop an Effective Communication Strategy

Communication can be a challenging area for hospitals, however, not addressing a
lack of communication can create poor management. Communication channels
should be customised according to the needs of the hospital.

6) Identify Vulnerable Areas

It is important to know where your hospital has been failing. It is only by
identifying these areas that you can then focus on the areas that are vulnerable and
work to strengthen them. The most qualified staff can then be applied to these
areas to ensure effective management.

7) Keep Contact Details Updated

The information of hospital staff can change without the hospital knowing.
Therefore, it is important to update the staff’s contact details as out-dated
information can affect the patient and demonstrates inefficient management.

8) Oversee Important Departments

Departments such as the emergency department and admissions may require more
attention in the hospital. Good hospital management is making sure that the best
people and systems are operating efficiently in these areas.

9) Remain Patient-Centred
Regardless of any innovative actions theere plan to initiate in the hospital, the main
priority should always be the patient. Communicative staff or the latest technology
will not matter if the patient is suffering. Therefore, effective hospital management
lies in remaining patient-centred.
10) having a memebership lacally and globally
