Nursing Informatics of efficiencies and Outcomes of the Patients

Nursing informatics refers to integrating nursing skills and care with information technology to

have useful information management and data in the healthcare industry. The nursing informatics

system can define, process, manage, and transmit data in different people in a certain network. The

computerized era plays a major role in the healthcare industry as it helps in decision-making and

increases knowledge. Therefore, nursing informatics helps increase the nursing outcomes on the

patients by improving how the nurses deliver their work. In a healthcare setting, it is essential to improve

the services given to patients with more complicated illnesses. There are many diseases that have struck

the world today, so great nursing care practice is highly demanded. For example, recently, there has been

a tremendous increase in cases related to infectious diseases, and many deaths have been attributed to

diseases. Nursing care is essential as it helps in the realization of better health results. Nursing

informatics is among the ways that help improve patient care efficiency and the health outcome in

general. When implementing the nursing care informatics project, there are requirements that will be

necessary for the hospital. For instance, skilled personnel will be needed in order to operate certain

machines, support from the relevant stakeholders, and also finance. The project proposed in this paper

is the integration of the healthcare informatics system, which includes; training for the new nurses, an

electronic healthcare record system, a performance evaluation system, and the automated task

allocation system. The integration of the informatics system will help in the coordination and handling of

different healthcare departments, which includes; patient's data, new nurse training, allocation of

healthcare attendants to the registered patients, helping in decision making for medical purposes, and

providing healthcare and performance reports in case they are needed by the management of the

hospital. The integration of nursing informatics is essential as it helps nurses manage their registered

patients, administers the right medication to the patients, and improves the quality of services that

nurses render to the patients.

Stakeholders impacted by the project.

The stakeholders that will be impacted by the integration of the nursing informatics system

include nurses and the other healthcare attendants, programmers, healthcare system managers,

patients, and employers. The named above stakeholders contribute directly to providing healthcare

services to the patients and also in the integration of the nursing informatics system. However, nurses

are the stakeholders who will be impacted by the integration the most. This is because ether plays a very

vital role in the coordination of the healthcare system and also in interacting with the other

stakeholders, including the patients. On the other hand, the healthcare managers will also be impacted

by the project because they are the stakeholders that are supposed to either give a go-ahead of the

project or otherwise. Therefore, it is worth noting that among the stakeholders that will be impacted by

the project, nurses will be impacted more.

Patient Outcomes

Upon the successful implementation of the project, the following outcomes are expected. Firstly,

the admission of patients in the hospital is likely to be smooth and will not take a lot of time. The

electronic healthcare record system will ensure that data of the patients are recorded faster, unlike

recording it manually. Additionally, when new nurses are trained before beginning work, they will serve

the patients faster and easier. Therefore, patients will not take a lot of time before seeing healthcare

attendants.

Secondly, it will be easy for patients to be allocated to their specific healthcare attendants. When

the data of the patients are recorded electronically, it becomes easy for patients to be allocated to their

healthcare attendants, unlike when the records are done manually. On the same note, by taking the

data of the patient, the doctors will also have to get a brief history of the patient even before the patient

gets to their offices. This makes the whole process easier.

Thirdly, the sharing of patients' data will be improved for better service delivery. For instance,

the electronic health record system will ensure that all the relevant healthcare attendants have the

medical history of the patient, and that makes the treatment process easy. If the patient goes to the

laboratory, he/ she will not have to start again explaining their condition to the lab technician. Hence it

makes the sharing of patients' data for improvement of service delivery easier.

Fourthly, the system will make it easy for health care providers to make medical decisions

concerning a patient. For instance, if a patient has an allergy to certain drugs, the medical data that is

recorded will show, and that will help in ensuring that the patient is not given the same drugs.

Additionally, the integration of the nursing informatics system will help healthcare attendants in deciding

the best treatment options for their patients. On another note, the integration will ensure that nurses

and other healthcare providers have a standardized nursing language that will make it able for patients

to provide their nursing information accurately. In summary, successful implementation of the project

will help in ensuring that the admission of the patients is smooth and not time-consuming, patients are

allocated to the appropriate medical attendants, better treatment decisions are made for the patients,

and it will make it easy for attendants to share the relevant patient data for medical purposes only. In

general, the project will improve the health outcomes of the patients.

Technologies Required

For the project to be successfully implemented, the fundamental technical requirement that

must be met is the big data analytics. This is essential because it ensures that the data of the patients are

recorded, analyzed, tracked, and retrieved when needed. With big data analytics, the health pattern of

the patient can be traced, and hence, it makes the treatment process even easier. Additionally, the

patient data collected is usually in the form of unstructured data; hence, the big data analytics works on

ensuring that data is structured appropriately. Data analytics usually uses matching techniques when

analyzing a problem and thus, making the whole treatment process comfortable. Technological devices

that will be needed are; computers that will support the system and smart medical devices for

monitoring. The healthcare attendants will have their own computers such that when patients’

information is recorded, they are able to access them.

Project Team

The project delivery team will include; computer programmers, nurse informatics personnel,

financial advisor, health care managers, nurses, and medical doctors. The named above teams directly

impact the healthcare delivery of the patients, so they are important for the project to be successful. The

nursing informatics system's integration should follow the standard development of the system life cycle,

which is; need analysis, designing of the system, coding implementation, testing, deployment, and

maintenance. The computer programmers have the role of drawing the flowcharts of the system

operation and coding them in a relevant programming language. The financial advisors will ensure that

they provide the economic feasibility. The healthcare managers have the responsibility of either allowing

the program to run or not. The nurse informatics personnel will ensure that the system follows all the

stages of the system development lifecycle. Nurses know more about the problems that patients go

through in the hospital; hence, they can work with nurse informatics personnel to provide solutions to

those problems. The team will also be responsible for ensuring that they monitor the project once it is

implemented.

Conclusion

In the world today, there are many diseases and pandemics that require patient outcomes to be

improved to save many lives. The number of patients has increased in hospitals. Hence, for the patients

to have better care, it is essential for the hospitals to consider the integration of the nursing informatics

system. The system will help in ensuring that patients do not waste a lot of time before seeing the

doctor, patients are allocated to the relevant medical personnel, better decisions concerning patients are

made and that the medical attendants can easily share the information of the patient for medical

purposes only. The technological requirements for the projects include big data analytics, smart devices,

and computers to support the system. Upon the successful implementation of the project, the health

outcomes of the patient are likely to be improved.
