CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Technologies are arising and it is worthwhile for living. Technology can

change the people lives far greater than they ever imagine and are still changing
people's lifestyle up to the present. Most of the people especially to the business
firm and school use technology and gives strength to provide a quality and
satisfying services to everyone. Computer technology is useful it simply manages
and record many transactions every time and get things easily and accurately.

According to Stacey R. Finkelstein, Ph.D.1 Nan Liu, Ph.D.1 Beena Jani,

M.D. 2 David Rosenthal, Ph.D.2 Lusine Poghosyan, Ph.D., MPH., RN. 3,
Appointment Reminder Systems and Patient Preference This study had two
aims: to measure patient preferences for medical appointment reminder systems
and to assess the predictive value of patient usage and familiarity with other
service providers contacting them on responsiveness to appointment reminder
systems

In today’s modern age where computer has become a way of life, it is

evident that most of the country’s institutions still do not adapt the high
technology. Particularly in most medical clinic facilities, daily clinic transactions
are still done on paper. We all know that modern clinics are now operating at
great pace striving to serve as many patients as possible with the best of their
abilities.

The HealthEase: Transaction Processing System is developed to enhance

the School Clinic Management and generates the workflow inside their clinic. The
proposed study is an advanced tool for school clinic, which is made to have a
simple and well-organized storage of medical records and inventory system. This
system will maintain all the records in an accessible and convenient way in
storing, retrieving, generating reports, and organizing data. The system will also
help the clinic staffs, faculties, and doctors to have more accurate and have a
capable way of gathering data of students. This system can easily be performed
using computers or laptops, which help them, lessen their paper works.

Objective of the Study

General Objectives

Generally, this study aims to develop and manage the HealthEase:

Transactions Processing System of School Clinic.

Specific Objectives

Specifically, the study aims to:

1. Manage user’s account.

2. Manage patient records.
3. Manage medicine.
4. Generate report such as:
4.1 patient information and medical history
4.2 patient transaction schedule
5. Evaluate the system in terms of:
5.1 Functionality
5.2 Effectiveness
5.3 Accuracy
5.4 Security

Significance of the study

The HealthEase: Transactions Processing System of School Clinic is

manually operated. This system helps the Clinic from manually operated to easy
effective in doing specific task. The system was very helpful to the following
users.
To the Clinic. This study would help SKSU School Clinic to facilitate their work,
especially the nurses to keep records in the Clinic.

To the Patient. It is beneficial to the Patient that they do not need to rush time
and easy to input the transaction of the clinic.

To the Researcher. This study gives more idea for the developing system
process and give some innovation of the system. This study would equip them
with knowledge about transaction process.

To the Future Researcher. The future researcher must give the new unique
technology about the transaction for the chosen study in the field of technology.

Scope and limitations of the Study

The study focused on the development of HealthEase: Transactions

Processing System of School Clinic to improve the clinic facilitation and provided
fast and reliable transaction between facilitator and the user itself.

The patient must register, first the patient could input all their information
and the system can verify if that person is either student or personnel of SKSU
Isulan Campus and then they need to click the register button to register.

The system would manage the patient records, medical history and visit
details of a particular patient. The administrator would be log in first, then
manage the patient information after the log in the administrator would see all the
patient records, visit details and medical history. A medical history was provided
for patient information. All the transaction made by the administrator to the
patient information would be directly saved to the database.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

In this chapter discussed the review of related literature and studies taken
from different sources such as books, internet, and electronic material like PDF.

Local Literature

The study of (Estinar et al., 2018) stated that with the system they
developed, the researchers were able to provide relevant health services as well
as a platform for the creation, storage, and consolidation of significant medical
data. This data backbone will be very useful for upcoming clinical applications.

The researchers were able to create a system that enables them to

provide relevant health services, but also acts as a platform to create, store, and
organize important medical data, which acts as a data the basis and have great
use in various kinds of businesses. According to this study, acquiring useful and
timely data and processing them to provide relevant health services appears to
be an obstacle. computerized system for managing health records.

The medical record system, as mentioned in Delmar (2015),

“Comprehensive Assisting Administrative and Clinic Comprehensive”, must be
one that fits the facility and meets the demands of the clinicians. Typically, a
medical record system is tailored to a specific facility by utilizing a common
component. Whatever system is utilized, medical record management must allow
for easy retrieval of information. The language used must be simple to
understand and grammatically correct.

The "Laguna University Healthcare Information System" is a stand-alone

system that was created for the Laguna University School Clinic, according to
(Volpane et al., 2016) study. This system aids in improving the management of
student medical and dental records, backing up and retrieving medical records,
keeping track of medicine inventories, and maintaining statistical records. To
enhance the process of managing medical and dental records at Laguna
University Healthcare, the designed system is suggested.

Foreign Study

Sherwood - Samuel (2016) emphasized that student health in elementary

and secondary schools is an important aspect in public health that has gained
several considerations over the past many decades in the developed and
developing country, it is important to educate public that children who receive
appropriate healthcare within the school environment contribute to their growth
and development of healthy and productive lifestyles.

According to Ahmed (2015)'s article, "Automated Clinic Record

Management System," our clinics' subpar record-keeping and filing systems are
the reason the healthcare industry has failed. There have been instances of lost
documents, difficulties retrieving patient records after a long search, loss of files
or records, information manipulation, etc., which cause treatment to be delayed
needlessly and occasionally even result in patient death. All citizens have been
concerned about the excessive delays in treating patients at the clinic caused by
the manual management of the patient files.

Smith (2012)'s "Automated Record Keeping System" is the source. The

current approach just uses a logbook to capture that information. This record
keeping system is used to reduce the ability to produce legible documents
containing all original and renewed prescription information. During an onsite
inspection, the records must be available for viewing or printing. So, the
researcher can tackle the problem by developing a more manageable and user-
friendly system. The researcher concludes that the developed system is for the
management of patient data. When the designed system is employed, problems
such as record misplacement, unauthorized access to data, and data processing
time delays are simply addressed by the system.
