Overview 

The class will be learning to play parts from rote to ​Latin-American 4-Beat Style Ensemble

Rationale 

This activity builds cooperation, enforces the idea of role within an ensemble, along with musical skills such
as dynamic and maintenance of pulse/tempo.

● I can chant and play rhythms that are presented to me using various syllables.
○ EI.2 The student will echo, read, and perform simple rhythms and rhythmic patterns, including
whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, dotted half notes, dotted quarter notes,
and corresponding rests.

● Shaker thing

Detailed Process 

Time Required
1 minute 1) Centering Activity: Call and response rhythm used in class: Alison

1.5 minutes 2) Introduction of first rhythm chant, then switch to drums.

1.5 mins 3) Switch to Henry, introduction of next rhythm chant

1.5 mins 4) Add both together verbally and then add drums

1.5 mins 5) Chandler takes over, and adds next chant and then drums.
1.5 mins 6) Repeat with Ryan
1.5 mins 7) Repeat with Ben

Assessments 
Develop specific assessment mechanisms to help you chart the growth of individual students related to each
specific learning goal (I can statement). Actually make some assessments in these forms:

Checklist
● How is the volume of the ensemble? Too loud?
● Are there intentions of playing the given articulations? (emphasis on strong beats we have given)
● Balance of individual parts? (No rhubarb pies…)
● What is tempo tendency? Is ensemble’s tendency to rush or drag? Do individual parts have different
tendencies?
● Does the chant exercise contribute to the playing after? Are the articulations
