MULTI – FACTORED ASSESSMENT TOOL

SESSION GUIDE

Say: Good morning participants, We are now in session 5a entitled “Work of Hands”.
This will last for two (2) hours and Thirty (30) minutes.

Day /Time : Day 4 Session 4

Time Duration : 2 hour/s & 30 minutes
Session Title : “WORK OF HANDS”

Say: We have three (3) objectives for this two (2) hours and Thirty (30) minutes
session. (the facilitator will read the objectives)

Objectives:

After the thorough discussion and collaborative learning on Fine Motor Skills
and Competencies, the participants will be able to:

a. Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills on the assessment of fine motor
skills;
b. Simulate properly the conduct of the assessment of fine motor skills; and
c. Display deeper appreciation by performing the simulation of the conduct of
the assessment accurately.

Resources Needed:

 Presentation/LCD/Laptop
 Crayons/pentel pen/pair of scissors/colored markers
bond papers, pictures of a ball and glass in broken lines
 Video Clip- Hand Exercise- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPO-zST-
7EE&t=62s

Priming: (15 minutes)

Say: Let us start with a Hand exercise. I will be showing a video of a hand exercise for
us to follow. Are we ready? Everybody raise your right hand/left hand. Put your hands
together and follow the video. ( Play the video) www.HandHealth.com – (Finger Fitness
Exercise Dance for Kids – (Fine Motor Skills Development for Beginners)…
After performing the activity;

Ask: What parts of the body are being used? (Hands) Everybody show me your
hands. We will still be using these hands in our next activity. But before that we
need to group ourselves into five.

Activity: (30 minutes) WORK OF HANDS

Group the participants into five (5) and tell them the tasks they are going to
tackle.
Say: I want you to count one to five and group yourself according to your
number. ( When the participants are grouped already, say the following)
I will be giving each group specific skill to work on. There are four fine motor skills
to be developed among our grade 1 learners. These are tracing, paper folding,
paper cutting and tearing, drawing and colouring. How do we develop all these
skills in the classroom? That’s what you are going to present creatively after ten
minutes. Group five will serve as observer. You will be guided with the following
questions:
1. What are your observations on the performance of each task?
2. What body parts did they use in creating the object?
3. What are the different skills observed?
GROUP ACTIVITY
Group 1- Tracing
Group 2- Paper folding
Group 3- Paper cutting and tearing
Group 4- Drawing and coloring
Group 5- Observers
(After the group presentation let the group five give their observation)

Analysis: (15 minutes)

 Ask the following questions:
1. What can you say about the activity?
2. What problems did you encounter during the activity?
3. What have you done to carry out the activity?
4. What skills should our learners develop to be able to perform the activities you
did in your respective group? (Fine Motor Skills)
Definitely that’s what we will be talking about.

Abstraction: (50 minutes) (Present the Slide Deck)

 Discuss fine motor skills and the competencies to be developed among learners
 Walk-through the forms to be used in the conduct of the assessment on Fine
Motor Skills.
After the discussion and walkthrough ask the following questions:

1. How many competencies are talked about? Are these competencies

important for our learners to develop? Why?

2. Do you have any questions or any point of concern before we proceed to the
simulation activity?

Application: (30 minutes)

 Let the participants simulate the conduct of the assessment, following this
grouping:

Group 1 - MSF 15-16

Group 2 - MSF 17-18
Group 3 - MSF 19-20
Group 4 - MSF 21-22
Group 5 - MSF 23-25

Concluding Activity: (10 minutes)

Distribute one-half size of bond paper. Ask the participants to trace their left hand, cut
and write two to three words that would describe their learning from the session. Instruct
them to post their work on the designated area. (Play the song Hands Up while the
participants are working on the activity).
