McDONALD’S FRANCHISE TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
ARTICLE I

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM

1.1 Purpose. The purpose of the McDonald’s Franchise Tuition Assistance Program (the
“Program”) is to furnish various types of educational assistance to the Eligible Employees of
participating Franchise Owner/Operators in the United States (the “Employer”). It is intended
that the tuition assistance provided under this Program be eligible for exclusion from the
Employee’s income to the maximum extent possible under Code Section 127 and also, where
applicable, under Code Section 132 as a program providing qualified educational assistance.

1.2 Adoption of the Program. For a franchised McDonald’s restaurant in the United
States to participate in the Program, the Franchise Owner/Operator must agree to the terms and
conditions of the Program by agreeing executing the Employment Verification Form in the
Employee’s Tuition Assistance Request application described herein.

1.3 Effective Date. The effective date of the Program shall be January 1, 2017

ARTICLE II

DEFINITIONS

2.1 “Benefits” means the direct payment or reimbursement of Educational Expenses


incurred by a Participant for Educational Courses.

2.2 “Code” shall mean the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as now in effect or as it may
be amended hereafter, and includes any regulations or rulings issued thereunder.

2.3 “Covered Costs” means the tuition fees, technology fees and similar payment fees
not already covered by scholarships and grants. (including seminar fees) paid or incurred by a
Participant.

2.4 “Educational Course” means any course of instruction taken by a Participant at an


Educational Institution that is relevant to the Participant’s current position or is directed toward a
degree program, and which is eligible for reimbursement pursuant to Article IV. The term shall
not include any course which instructs the Participant in any sport, game or hobby, unless such a
course is related to the Employer’s business and the Participant’s job or is required as part of a
degree program. However, the term does include education that instructs Participants how to
maintain or improve health, so long as such education does not involve the use of athletic
facilities or equipment and is not recreational in nature.

2.5 “Educational Expenses” means expenses incurred by an Eligible Employee in


taking an Educational Course, including, but not limited to, tuition, fees and similar payments.

Educational Expenses shall not include the costs of books, tools or supplies, or the costs of
meals, lodging or transportation incurred by an Eligible Employee.

2.6 “Educational Institution” means any degree or certificate granting, Department of


Education accredited two- or four-year colleges/universities (graduate or post-graduate),
business, technical or vocational schools in the United States, and Career Online High School
Courses taken through the McDonald’s Career Online High School Program administered by
Ed2Go.

2.7 “Eligible Employee” means any Employee who has satisfied the eligibility
requirements of Article III hereof.

2.8 “Employee” means any individual currently employed by the Employer and who the
Employer contemporaneously regards, classifies or treats as a U.S. domestic employee.

2.9 “Employer” means a Franchise Owner/Operator that has adopted this Program in
accordance with Article I.

2.10 “Franchise Owner/Operator” means an entity with which McDonald’s USA, LLC
(“McDonald’s”) has an agreement pursuant to which: (a) such entity has a license to use a brand
owned by McDonald’s; and (b) the entity undertakes to conduct a business in accordance with
methods and procedures prescribed by the owner of such brand.

2.11 “Full-Time” means any specified Employee who works a minimum of 30 hours per
week for an Employer.

2.12 “Office Staff” means any Employee whose primary responsibilities for the Employer
do not include working in a restaurant (e.g., Office Manager, HR Manager, or Supervisor).

2.13 “Participant” means any Eligible Employee who qualifies for Benefits under the
Program.

2.14 “Part-Time” means any specified Employee who works on average 20-29 hours per
week for an Employer.

2.15 “Program” means the McDonald’s Franchise Tuition Assistance Program.

2.16 “Program Administrator” means International Scholarship and Tuition Services,


Inc.

2.17 “Program Year” means the twelve (12) month period beginning on January 1 and
ending on December 31.

2.18 “Restaurant Crew Employee” means any Employee who holds a title below that of
“Shift Manager” in the Employer’s organizational structure within the restaurant (e.g., Crew
Person, Floor Supervisor, Crew Trainer, Primary Maintenance, Backup Maintenance, or Shift
Manager Trainee).

2.19 “Restaurant Management Employee” means any Employee who holds the title of
“Shift Manager” or a title above “Shift Manager” in the Employer’s organizational structure
within the restaurant (e.g., General Manager, Restaurant Manager, Department Manager, First
Assistant Manager, Second Assistant Manager, Assistant Manager, or Certified Swing Manager).

2.20 “Term” means the applicable period of time during the calendar year as established
by the educational institution for which a Participant may receive Benefits in accordance with
Article IV.

ARTICLE III

ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION

3.1 Eligibility for Participation in McDonald’s Franchise Tuition Assistance


Program.

(a) Subject to the application and enrollment requirements described herein and in
Exhibit A, the following groups of Employees are eligible to receive Benefits under the Program.

(i) Part-Time Office Staff who:

(1) are currently employed by a participating Franchise


Owner/Operator in the United States as described in Section 1.2;

(2) have been employed by the same Franchise


Owner/Operator at nine (9) cumulative months as of the time of the Tuition Assistance Request
application completion; and

(3) are Employees in good standing as determined by


the Franchise Owner/Operator.

(ii) Full-Time Office Staff who:

(1) are currently employed by a participating Franchise


Owner/Operator in the United States as described in Section 1.2; and

(2) are Employees in good standing as determined by


the Franchise Owner/Operator.

(iii) Part-Time Restaurant Management Employees who:

(1) are currently employed by a participating Franchise


Owner/Operator in the United States as described in Section 1.2;

(2) have been employed by the same Franchise


Owner/Operator at least nine (9) cumulative months as of the time of the Tuition Assistance
Request application completion; and

(3) are Employees in good standing as determined by
the Franchise Owner/Operator.

(iv) Full-Time Restaurant Management Employees who:

(1) are currently employed by a participating Franchise


Owner/Operator in the United States as described in Section 1.2; and

(2) are Employees in good standing as determined by


the Franchise Owner/Operator.

(v) Restaurant Crew Employees who:

(1) are currently employed by a participating Franchise


Owner/Operator in the United States as described in Section 1.2;

(2) have been employed by the same Franchise


Owner/Operator at least nine (9) cumulative months as of the time of the Tuition Assistance
Request application completion;

(3) are working an average of 20 hrs/week for that


Franchise Owner/Operator; and

(4) are Employees in good standing as determined by


the Franchise Owner/Operator.

(b) Notwithstanding the foregoing Section 3.1(a), in its sole discretion, the Program
Administrator may determine that a certain Employee qualifies for Benefits in a particular
circumstance or, conversely, may determine that an Employee who otherwise satisfies the
eligibility requirements does not qualify as a Participant.

(c) Notwithstanding the foregoing Section 3.1(a), any individual who is an


employee of McDonald’s Corporation, McDonald’s USA, LLC, or any of their affiliate or
subsidiary companies and who is eligible to participate in the McOpCo Tuition Assistance
Program shall not be eligible to participate in the Franchise Tuition Assistance Program.

(d) To receive Benefits under the Program, the Franchise Owner/Operator who
employs the Eligible Employee must agree to the terms and conditions of participating in the
program by submitting the Employment Verification Form by the deadline communicated in
Exhibit A. The Program Administrator is responsible for notifying the Franchise
Owner/Operator after the Eligible Employee’s Tuition Assistance Request application has been
submitted, all required documents have been processed and reimbursable expenses have been
verified. Owner/Operator notifications will be sent from the Program Administrator via email no
fewer than twice weekly.

3.2 Cessation of Participation. A Participant shall cease being eligible to receive


Benefits under the Program upon the earlier of:

(a) the date upon which the Employee terminates or is discharged from
employment with the Employer;

(b) cessation of status as an Eligible Employee;

(c) death;

(d) disability;

(e) commencing an unpaid leave of absence;

(f) termination of the Participant’s studies for which Benefits were being
provided; and

(g) the date upon which the Program is terminated under Section 7.1 with
respect to such Employee

ARTICLE IV

BENEFITS

4.1 Tuition Assistance. The Program provides reimbursements to Participants for


Educational Expenses up to the relevant maximum amount set forth in Section 5.2. All rights to
Benefits are conditioned on the Participant’s satisfying the approval requirements of this Article
IV.

4.2 Course Approval for Tuition Reimbursement. The Program Administrator in its
sole discretion shall determine whether the Educational Course qualifies for reimbursement
under the Program.

4.3 Payment of Benefits. A Participant will be reimbursed for Educational Expenses


incurred for Educational Courses, subject to the limitations set forth in Article V, upon
presentation of adequate substantiation of Educational Expenses and, if applicable, satisfactory
evidence that the Employee received a passing grade in any Educational Courses for which the
Employee received reimbursement within the same calendar year. Benefits are only payable
under the Program to the extent that the Eligible Employee has provided adequate substantiation
of the expense as determined by the Program Administrator.

4.4 Procedures for Submitting Educational Expense Reimbursement Requests.

(a) To receive Benefits, a Participant must submit a completed Tuition


Assistance Request application, together with any such supporting information or documentation
as the Program Administrator may require and in accordance with any nondiscriminatory
policies and procedures as the Program Administrator may establish, including but not limited to
receipts for Educational Expenses and the approved Tuition Assistance Request application.
Eligible Employees may submit one Tuition Assistance Request application per Term so long as
they continue to meet the eligibility criteria outlined in this Article III.

(b) In addition, if an Eligible Employee has received reimbursement for
Educational Expenses in connection with an Education Course taken in a prior Term within the
same calendar year, that Eligible Employee must submit adequate evidence of achieving a
passing grade in that Educational Course. Tuition Assistance Request applications must be
submitted to the Program Administrator no later than December 5th of each year in order for the
reimbursement to count towards that calendar year’s maximum Benefit reimbursement (as set
forth in Section 5.2 below). Tuition Assistance Request applications received after this
timeframe will be applied towards the subsequent calendar year. In no event will a Tuition
Assistance Request application be accepted or processed with respect to Educational Courses
that were completed more than twelve (12) months before the submission of the request.

ARTICLE V

LIMITATIONS ON BENEFITS

5.1 Active Employment Required. No Benefit will be payable under the Program to
any person who is not actively employed by the Employer at the time all of the conditions for
payment have been satisfied. Notwithstanding the foregoing, at the Program Administrator’s
discretion Benefits relating to Educational Expenses incurred prior to the commencement of an
approved leave of absence may be paid.

5.2 Tuition Reimbursement. Participants shall be eligible for reimbursement of tuition


and fees of up to $1,050 per calendar year if the Participant is a Full-Time Office Staff or a Full-
Time Restaurant Management Employee meeting the requirements of Article III, and up to $700
per calendar year if the Participant is a Part-Time Office Staff, Part-Time Restaurant
Management Employee or Restaurant Crew Employee meeting the requirements of Article III.
All Employees participating in the McDonald’s Career Online High School Program
administered through Ed2Go are eligible for full payment of the Online High School Program
fees. The educational assistance will be paid in one installment following the Employee’s
submission of supporting documentation and receipts pursuant to Section 4.4 evidencing the
actual tuition and fees related to the Educational Course and, if applicable, the Employee’s
satisfactory completion of any prior Educational Courses during the same Program year
(December 7, 2016 through December 5, 2017).

5.3 Offset for Other Payments. Any Participant receiving financial assistance or a
fellowship or scholarship from any public or private source shall be entitled to a Benefit under
this Program only to the extent the Educational Expenses of the Educational Courses taken
exceed the amount of such financial assistance, fellowship or scholarship. Notwithstanding the
foregoing, nothing in the Program shall affect an Employee’s eligibility for the McDonald’s
National Employee Scholarship.

5.4 Number of Educational Courses. The number of Educational Courses that may be
approved for reimbursement for a Participant under Section 5.2 is subject to the discretion of the
Program Administrator.

5.5 Satisfactory Completion. Benefits shall be payable with respect to any Educational
Course which the Participant completes with a passing grade. An Educational Course that has

been failed, withdrawn from, or incomplete in any Term will result in a deduction in the next
payment request submitted in that same calendar year in which such Term commenced in an
amount equal to the Benefit paid for the failed Educational Course. Only subsequent requests
within the same calendar year are subject to deductions from a class failed earlier in that year.

5.6 No Benefits in Lieu of Compensation. In no event shall a Participant be entitled to


receive any Benefit under this Program in lieu of any other compensation from the Employer to
which he or she might otherwise be entitled.

5.7 Tax Treatment.

(a) In accordance with Code Section 127, up to $5,250 in reimbursements for


qualified Educational Expenses per calendar year may be excludable from gross income of the
Participant.

(b) Reimbursements in excess of $5,250 per calendar year will be includible in


income and subject to income and withholding taxes except to the extent that they may be
excludable from gross income pursuant to Code Section 132.

(c) If any Benefit provided under the Program becomes taxable, whether as a result
of nondiscrimination tests or payment of benefits in excess of statutory limits described herein,
any employment tax withholding owed with respect to the taxable portion of any Benefit shall be
deducted from the Employee’s other compensation in the same calendar year in which the
Benefit is provided.

ARTICLE VI

FUNDING

6.1 The Program Administrator shall contribute the amount required to pay Benefits
under this Program. Benefits shall be paid to or on behalf of any Participant upon the submission
and approval of a claim for Benefits pursuant to the procedures set forth in Article IV. There
shall be no special fund out of which Benefits shall be paid, nor shall the Employer or the
Participants be required to make contributions as a condition of receiving Benefits.

ARTICLE VII

AMENDMENT OR TERMINATION

7.1 This Program may be amended or terminated at any time by the Employer or Program
Administrator, provided, however, that any termination or amendment shall not affect the right
of any Employee to claim a Benefit for which he or she may have qualified prior to such
termination or amendment, to the extent such amounts are payable under the terms of the
Program as in effect prior to the calendar month in which the Program is amended or terminated.

ARTICLE VIII

MISCELLANEOUS

8.1 Program Interpretation. All final decisions in interpreting provisions of the


Program shall be the responsibility of the Program Administrator.

8.2 No Liability. Nothing contained herein shall impose on any officers or directors of
the Employer any personal liability for any Benefit due an Employee pursuant to this Program.

8.3 Program Administrator. Any rules, regulations or procedures that may be


necessary for the proper administration or functioning of this Program that are not covered in this
Program shall be promulgated and adopted by the Program Administrator.

8.4 No Contract of Employment. This Program shall not be deemed to constitute a


contract between the Employer and any Employee, or to be a consideration or an inducement for
the employment of any Employee. This Program shall not be deemed to give any Employee the
right to be retained in the service of the Employer, or to interfere with the right of the Employer
to discharge any Employee at any time regardless of the effect which such discharge shall have
upon such person as a Participant in this Program. This Program shall not be deemed to give the
Employer the right to require any Employee to remain in the employ of the Employer, or to
restrict any such person’s right to terminate his or her employment at any time.

8.5 Severability. If any provision of this Program shall be held by a court of competent
jurisdiction to be invalid for any reason, such illegality or invalidity shall not affect the
remaining parts of this Program, and this Program shall be construed and enforced as if such
illegal and invalid provisions had never been included.

8.6 Gender and Number. In the construction of this Program, reference to any gender
shall include the masculine, feminine and neuter genders, the plural shall include the singular and
the singular the plural, whenever appropriate.

8.7 Governing Law. The terms of the Program shall be construed under the laws of the
State of Illinois, except to the extent such laws are preempted by the laws of any other state or by
federal law.

8.8 Facility of Payment. When any person entitled to Benefits under the Program is
under legal disability or in the Program Administrator’s opinion is in any way incapacitated so as
to be unable to manage his or her affairs, the Administrator may cause that person’s Benefits to
be paid to that person’s legal representative, or to be applied for the benefit of that person in any
other manner that the Administrator may determine.

8.9 Documentation. When making a determination or calculation, the Program


Administrator and anyone acting on its behalf may request, and rely upon, such documentation
as it may determine to be necessary.

McDonald’s Franchise Tuition Assistance Program Frequently Asked Questions (“FAQs”)

Who is eligible to apply for tuition assistance?


Restaurant management employees and office staff must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for
tuition assistance:
 Must be employed by a participating McDonald’s Franchise Owner/Operator in the United States.*
 Must be working a minimum of 20 hours per week for that Franchise Owner/Operator.
 Must be in good standing as determined by the Franchise Owner/Operator.

Restaurant crew employees must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for tuition assistance:
 Must be employed by a participating McDonald’s Franchise Owner/Operator in the United States.*
 Must have been employed by the same Franchise Owner/Operator at least nine (9) months as of the time
of Tuition Assistance Request application completion.
 Must be working an average of 20 hours per week for that Franchise Owner/Operator.
 Must be in good standing as determined by the Franchise Owner/Operator.

*The Franchise Owner/Operator must agree to the terms and conditions of participating in the program. This
agreement is obtained on the Employment Verification Form after the employee submits their Tuition Assistance
Request application.

What are the details of the tuition assistance program?


 Restaurant management employees and office staff who work a minimum of 30 hours per week are
eligible for up to $1,050 of tuition assistance per calendar year.
 Restaurant management employees and office staff who work between 20 and 29 hours per week are
eligible for up to $700 of tuition assistance per calendar year.
 Restaurant crew employees are eligible for up to $700 of tuition assistance per calendar year.
 Eligible employees may submit one Tuition Assistance Request application per term so long as they continue
to meet the eligibility criteria.
 Funds will be applied to tuition and fees only at accredited, degree or certificate granting two- or four-year
colleges/universities or business, technical or vocational schools in the United States.
 Employees must receive a passing grade in courses for which they received tuition assistance. Failure to do so
will result in funds associated with that course being deducted from their next Tuition Assistance Request
application within the same calendar year.
 Employees participating in the McDonald’s Career Online High School Program administered through ed2go
are eligible for full payment of the Career Online High School Program fees. If an employee completes the
Career Online High School Program, he/she may apply for additional tuition assistance in the same calendar
year.
 Any Participant receiving financial assistance or a fellowship or scholarship from any public or private source
shall be entitled to a Benefit under this Program only to the extent the Educational Expenses of the
Educational Courses taken exceed the amount of such financial assistance, fellowship or scholarship.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in the Program shall affect an Employee’s eligibility for the
McDonald’s National Employee Scholarship.

What is the Career Online High School?


The Career Online High School is an accredited high school diploma program, for those who wish to complete their
high school education online. You can apply previous high school credits you may have earned, and work towards a
diploma that is accepted at colleges and universities. If you are interested in learning more and applying for the

Am I a management or crew level employee?
 Restaurant management employees are employees at or above the shift manager within the Franchise
Owner/Operator's organization, including:
o General Manager
o Restaurant Manager
o Department Manager
o First Assistant Manager
o Second Assistant Manager
o Assistant Manager
o Certified Swing Manager
o Shift Manager
o Office Staff (Example: Office Supervisor, Office Staff, HR)
 Crew employees are employees below the shift manager within the Franchise Owner/Operator's
organization, including:
o Crew Person

What if I work for a McOpCo restaurant?


McOpCo restaurant employees are eligible to apply for tuition assistance through the McOpCo Tuition Assistance
Program. Please contact your restaurant general manager or visit www.archwaystoopportunity.com for details.

When is the Tuition Assistance Request application deadline?


All 2017 tuition assistance applications must be submitted by December 5, 2017 at 11:59pm Central time.

How do I know if my application is complete?


Allow five to seven business days after uploading documents for your online status to update. You may monitor
your status of your application on your home page at https://aim.applyISTS.net.
 Not Started: the form has not been requested or started.
 Started: the form has not been submitted and will not be considered.
 Submitted: the form has been submitted, but is not Complete.
 Complete: all required forms and attachments have been received and your application will be
considered.
You may also monitor the status of your attachments.
 Not received: the attachment has either not been received or has been rejected.
 Requested: the form request has been created, but the form has not been started.
 Processing: the attachment has been received and is being reviewed.
 Accepted: the attachment has been verified and accepted by ISTS.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to monitor the progress of all application requirements to make sure the
application is complete. The status Complete will display on the home page when all forms have been submitted
and all documents have been verified.

I uploaded a document that no longer displays on my application. Do I need to submit it again?
Previously uploaded documents that are no longer displayed with a status on the home page have been rejected.
The most common reasons for a rejected document are as follows:
 The document uploaded is not one of the accepted file types: .pdf, .tif, .png, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .bmp and
.xps.
 The document uploaded was not the document requested.
 Not all pages of the document were contained in the file.
 We cannot open the file. The file may be corrupted or password protected.
Refer to the upload section of your application for the details of the required documents and upload a new file
that meets the criteria stated.

How do I upload more than one file at a time?


You may create a .zip file containing more than one file as long as everything included is in an acceptable format
(i.e. .pdf, .tif, .png, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .bmp and .xps.)

How do I create a .zip file?


To use this format, follow the steps outlined below:
1. Create a new folder on your Desktop, name it the document type you will be uploading. For example, Test
Scores, Transcript, or Financial Documentation.
2. Move all the pages you wish to upload into the new folder.
3. Right click on the folder from your Desktop:
a. PC Users: select “Send to,” followed by “Compressed (zipped) folder.”
b. Mac Users: select “Compress ‘[folder name]’.”
4. Your new .zip file will be located on your Desktop, ready to upload.

What is the difference between Official and Unofficial Transcripts?


Official transcripts must be obtained through your college registrar office. These transcripts are normally printed
on official letterhead and/or state that they are official. These may contain a signature.

Note: Your official transcript may come to you in a sealed envelope, stating it will become unofficial if opened.
When scanning or copying your official transcripts, a watermark may appear noting they are now unofficial.
Despite any watermarks or sealed envelopes, you may open the envelope if needed to upload the document.
These documents will still be considered official for our purposes. When scanning or copying, you do not need to
include a copy of the sealed envelope.

Unofficial transcripts may be accessed through your school’s online student portal. These pages must still be
converted to one of the acceptable file formats. There are free tools available that will allow you to save various
documents (including web pages) as a PDF. Unofficial transcripts must contain your name and the school name
and contact information.

What are the DOs and DON’Ts of uploading documents to my application?
DO:
 Upload in the correct file format.
 Only upload the requested documents.
 Ensure that all documents are legible.
 Black out any Social Security numbers on the documents you are uploading. This is not required, but
advised.
 Return to your Home page at https://aim.applyISTS.net to verify your documents have been accepted.

DON’T:
 Upload a Microsoft Word™ document (.doc, .docx).
 Upload more than the requested documentation.
 Assume your documents are correct and accepted once you have uploaded them.
 Upload two documents with the same file name (or replace a rejected document with another document
with the same file name as the rejected document).
 Upload a document stating you are mailing your documents.
 Assume the required document does not pertain to you. If the application states the document is
required, your application will remain incomplete if you do not provide that document.
 Password protect your uploaded documents. Password protected documents will be rejected.

Where and when should I send my supporting documents? (College Tuition Assistance only)
 The required supporting documents must be uploaded to your online application or emailed to ISTS no
later than December 5, 2017. If you do not follow the upload instructions exactly, your application may
not be considered.
 Documents sent by mail must be received in ISTS’s Nashville, TN office no later than December 5, 2017.
 Documents that meet the criteria required for the tuition assistance application, and are
uploaded/received by December 5, 2017, will be processed and considered on time.

How will I know if my uploaded document (tuition bill/transcript) has been accepted or rejected? (College
Tuition Assistance only)
If your Tuition Assistance Request Application is denied for any reason, you will be notified by ISTS via email.

How and when will I receive notification from ISTS?


 Notifications regarding your Tuition Assistance Request application are sent via email from MCD-
Tuition@applyISTS.com and contactus@applyISTS.com.
 Add MCD-Tuition@applyISTS.com and contactus@applyISTS.com to your email address book or “safe
senders list” to ensure these important emails are not sent to your junk mail folder.

Employees will be notified of their status only after program eligibility is verified and the application is considered

If your Tuition Assistance Request Application is denied for any reason, you will be notified by ISTS via email.

Who do I contact to find out the status of my tuition assistance request?
You can view the status of your request on your home page at https://aim.applyISTS.net. If you have questions
about the status of your request after checking your application status online, please contact ISTS Customer Care
at MCD-Tuition@applyISTS.com or (800) 287-1145.

How do I request employment verification?


A notification to complete the Employment Verification Form will be automatically sent to your Owner/Operator
after your Tuition Assistance Request application has been submitted and all required documents have been
processed and verified.

When is the Employment Verification Form deadline?


December 12, 2017 at 11:59pm Central Time

What happens after my employment is verified?


Once your employment has been verified by your Owner/Operator, you will receive notification via email that your
Tuition Assistance Request application has been approved. Your check will then be issued.

How and when are checks issued?


Checks will be issued within 13 days of the completion of a Tuition Assistance Request application to the
employee’s mailing address on the Profile page. Checks will be made payable to the institution on the Profile page.

Who is responsible for paying my college or university?


The employee is responsible for delivering their tuition assistance check to the appropriate financial office at their
school.

Are tuition assistance funds taxable?


Tax laws vary by country. In the United States, funds used exclusively for the payment of tuition or textbooks are
normally not taxable. The recipient is responsible for taxes, if any, that may be assessed against his or her tuition
assistance payment. We recommend consulting your tax advisor for more guidance. You may also click here to
consult IRS Publication 970 for further information.

Program Administration
To ensure complete impartiality in selection of recipients and to maintain a high level of professionalism, the
program is administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc., a firm that specializes in managing
sponsored scholarship programs and tuition assistance programs.
