UNSW Sydney’s Kensington campus has everything

UNSW has among the largest student housing capacity in Sydney with
award-winning accommodation on and off campus. Live within walking distance
of your lecture halls, meet people from around the world, and make lifelong
friends. Alternatively, find your own home in the neighbouring Eastern Suburbs
or by the beach.
Accommodation at UNSW
Colleges
Colleges provide a choice of full board, partially catered,
and self-catered accommodation. There is also a range
of gender-specific options including male only, female
only, and mixed male and female accommodation. Most
colleges cater for dietary requirements like halal, kosher,
and vegetarian.
Apartments
Apartments offer independent-style living for
undergraduates, postgraduates, couples, and families
with children. There are apartments on and off campus
and costs vary depending on the number of rooms and
the location.
You should organise your university accommodation
early as places book up quickly. Go to accommodation.

Private accommodation options
Rental property
There are many private rental properties in the suburbs
surrounding UNSW. Costs vary according to the number
of bedrooms, the condition, and location. When renting,
you usually sign a six or 12 month lease and pay rent in
advance plus a security deposit called a bond. You can
rent a furnished or unfurnished property and generally
there will be additional expenses such as electricity, gas,
telephone and Wi-Fi. Costs vary but usually range from
A$150 – A$300 per student per week in a shared house or
apartment.
Homestay (full board and room-only)
Homestay options include full board and single room-only
accommodation. Full board usually includes a furnished
room, use of facilities in the private home of a family or
single person, plus breakfast and dinner. Some also
include bed linen, a laundry service, and weekly room
cleaning. Single room-only homestays include a furnished
room, and gas and electricity expenses in the rent. You
will be responsible for buying your own food, cooking,
cleaning, and laundry and telephone costs. Costs vary
but usually range from A$250 - A$350 per student per

Temporary accommodation
If you haven’t confirmed your university accommodation
before you arrive, we recommend you allow three to four
weeks before classes begin to look for private housing,
settle in, and attend orientation sessions. Be sure to book
short-term accommodation first, then look for long-term
options in person. Short-term accommodation can include
private hotels, motels, hostels, lodges, or furnished
apartments ranging from A$45 to A$300 per day.

Our International Student Housing Assistance (ISHA)
team can help you look for temporary or private
accommodation if UNSW accommodation isn’t available
when you apply. The service is available at the start of

A wide range of scholarships is offered for international students.
Our scholarships
UNSW offers a wide range of prestigious scholarships. The scholarships provide benefits
such as annual stipends, living allowances, and tuition fee cover, as well as funding and
supplements for travel.
Eligibility
Full scholarships are only available to applicants who hold a four-year bachelor degree
with Honours class 1 from an Australian institution, or an equivalent research qualification/

Available scholarships
The UNSW scholarships available to international students are:
Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP)
Based on outstanding academic merit and research potential, these awards provide
successful applicants undertaking a PhD or research masters with a tax-exempt living
allowance in addition to covering tuition fees for 3.5 (for PhD) or 2 (for masters) years. The
RTP also provides some additional allowances.
University International Postgraduate Award (UIPA)
Based on outstanding academic merit and research potential, these awards provide
successful applicants undertaking a PhD or research masters with a tax-exempt living
allowance in addition to covering tuition fees for 3.5 (for PhD) or 2 (for masters) years. The
UIPA also provides some additional allowances.
Tuition Fee Scholarship (TFS) plus a Research Stipend
Based on outstanding academic merit and research potential, these awards provide
successful applicants undertaking a PhD or research masters with a tax-exempt living
allowance provided by the faculty, school or supervisor, in addition to covering tuition fees
for 3.5 (for PhD) or 2 (for masters) years.
UNSW and home country joint scholarships
Available to students from China, Pakistan and Chile.

UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship scheme
These are prestigious scholarships based on research merit, research potential, global
impact and social engagement, and potential for career development. These awards
provide successful applicants undertaking a PhD with a tax-exempt living allowance and
an annual development support package, in addition to covering tuition fees for 4 years.
The Scientia PhD Scholarship scheme has different eligibility criteria and application
